As 2017 comes to a close I'm looking back on what I've achieved and the highlights. One that really stands out was running a machine knitting session with the kids of Ashfield public school as part of .workshops. Can you believe a group of kindys and yr 1 students designed and knit this cushion collectively. They loved it and their enthusiasm was so uplifting! //

Such a fantastic bunch of knitters today for the first week of the Stitch and Pattern workshop . It's so interesting when you get experienced handknitters in to learn machine knitting, we had great chats about the capabilities of machine knitting versus hand knitting. Ultimately both are fantastic for different reasons and knowing both really opens up your design possibilities.

Another fantastic bunch of students in our introduction to machine knitting workshop yesterday. This photo was taken when all the new skills are brought together into the students own design in a beautiful merino blend.
It's not hard to spot where the colour inspiration for this piece came from!

Who needs Vivid when you've got this while you work? 💥A beautiful old soul of a knitting machine that I'm restoring needs some new screws and this is how I'm making them the right length. Thanks for providing the machinery ! .

Introducing The Ennis scarf.

Our The Knit Space studio is in the amazing MakerSpace & Co warehouse in Marrickville. We love the fact that we are surrounded by so many talented makers, designers and craftspeople. The open day this Sunday is a great way to check it out and see what you can learn or make at Makerspace & Co.

The zig zag row looking perfectly zigged and zagged! 🤗

Mastered the main knitting bed and keen to add the ribbing attachment? then the class I'm running June 3rd is perfect for you. .
We'll be learning how to attach the ribber properly and troubleshoot potential issues. Then we'll cast on and go through all the possible rib combinations. Once you've tried it you can't live without it!

I'm very excited to be taking part in the Inner West Studio Trail next WEEKEND.
is opening up for a day packed full of activity. There will be lots of demonstrations including myself machine knitting. Pop along say hi and give it a go!

There will also be a MAKERS MARKET where some excellent wares made creatives will be available to buy, including extrafine merino scarves..... Just in case you were starting to feel the chill!

Whilst hand knitting is wonderfully therapeutic we're all about the speed at which we can try out our ideas and if you are anything like us there are a lot of ideas in there screaming to get out!

Using punch cards and different colours and textures of yarn you can get exciting results quickly. It frees you up creatively as it doesn't take long to make a swatch it doesn't matter if it doesn't work. (phew!!)

These are some swatches from a student in the all day intro to machine knitting class, who had just learnt to use the machine a few hours earlier.
Yep you can get going that quickly :-) honestly.

Love this colour combo choosen by Anna in last saturdays intro class. A classic mix that looked fresh with her design of block stripes of textured tuck stitch and 2 col jacquard. All students are knitting their own designs by by the end of the day and all you have to do is wash and dry it when you get home.
If you fancy giving it a go and designing your own snood then pop along to a machine knitting workshop. Your neck will thank you come winter!
