Summer is hanging on but Autumn is here and the temperatures are starting to cool down and this encourages people to get outside and exercise. This can be personal exercise programs or organised sport. With either there is risk of injuries, from minor grazes to sprains and strains and fractures. These injuries can be treated initially by a first aider and if treated correctly initially will reduce the healing time drastically. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO? Completing few hours of training and completing the assessments competently are all you need to be qualified in First Aid and know what to do in these situations. Not many adults could do what 11-year-old Izak did when he and his father located an unconscious person on their hiking trip in the Glass House Mountains.

Izak’s father called Triple Zero (000) while Izak remained with the patient where he put his Scouts training to good use and began performing CPR.

While other bystanders gathered around, Izak took control of the scene and instructed others on how to help, including guiding bystanders through compressions.

When paramedics Kellie and Juliana, student paramedic Cyrus and Flight Critical Care Paramedic Tim arrived on scene, they were truly impressed by the actions young Izak took to assist a complete stranger.

To thank Izak for showing immense bravery, the QAS crew presented him a Certificate of Bravery and a QAS teddy bear at the Narangba Ambulance Station this week, with his proud family in attendance.

What a brave and selfless act!
