Congratulations 🥳 to Paul for clocking up 38 YEARS of serving our Tamworth community! Paul has been serving our community since 1987. That's more than 150,000 eye tests! 🤯

From all the kids he’s helped with their reading and learning to the failing eyesight of the wisened, he’s seen it all and treated it all. Paul’s still seeing patients out of Shoppingworld, Peel St and Quirindi every week.

We were delighted to have Joel join us for work experience. He got hands-on learning across the practice, from eye tests to helping choose frames and even trying his hand at repairs. 👓

Joel, you were a wonderful addition to the team, and we wish you all the very best in whichever career path you choose! ⭐️

We were excited to support the Rural Doctors Network with eye screening at this year’s Koori Knockout. Check out the full story below!

RDN staff took to the sidelines of the Koori Knockout as part of The Western NSW Eye Health Partnership (WEHP) and its aim to increase access to eye health services and, ultimately, reduce the rate of avoidable vision loss in Aboriginal communities across Western NSW.

Dating back to 1971 and offering a powerful expression of Aboriginal identity, pride, kinship and resilience, the Knockout was this year hosted by Walgett Aboriginal Connection in , Gomeroi Country and has grown to become one of the biggest Indigenous gatherings in Australia.

As part of the event, the WEHP welcomed Knockout participants to talk about the importance of and captured more than 60 detailed images of the inside of attendees' eyes using a portable retinal camera. As a result, it was determined that 16 individuals will need further follow-up and assessments and were given referrals to optometrists.

Health Access Services Manager, Amanda Masset, represented RDN and said “This impactful event was made possible through the dedicated collaboration of the Western NSW Eye Health Partnership, Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service, Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service, Walhallow Aboriginal Corporation, Paul Harvey Optometry, and the Brien Holden Foundation.”
