Does your knee hurt when you run or exercise?

The 3 most common conditions that cause knee pain when running are:
β€’ Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS)
β€’ Iliotibial Band Syndrome
β€’ Patella Tendinopathy

The good news is that all these conditions often resolve after some form of treatment. For most patients a combination of targeted strengthening exercises, biomechanical adjustments, load management strategies and other adjunct therapies will have them back to pain free running in no time.

If this sounds like you book an appointment with one of our physiotherapists online at www.totalcarephysio.com.au or call 6766 9488. Or tag someone below that you think might find this helpful.

The return to winter running sports normally means an increase in leg and foot pain. One of the most common conditions is heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis/ fasciopathy. The classic sign is pain on rising from bed or a chair, with pain in the heel that feels like a stone bruise.

Plantar fasciitis occurs when the strong fibrous tissue (plantar fascia) along the bottom of your foot becomes irritated and inflamed. This results in intense, sharp pain that can make even walking extremely uncomfortable. It is believed to be caused by repetitive overuse and overstretching of the arch of the foot but many other factors can also contribute to it.

If left untreated plantar fasciitis can sometimes last longer than a year. Common treatments like massaging on a roller or stretching are often ineffective. At Total Care Physiotherapy we use a combination of activity modification, taping, corrective footwear, radial shockwave therapy and a guided strengthening program to speed up your recovery.

So if you or someone you know has plantar fasciitis or heel pain we would be happy to help you get out of pain, back on your feet and active again. Appointments can be made over the phone at 6766 9488 or online at www.totalcarephysio.com.au.

Check out this post from the Australian Physiotherapy Association about the importance of keeping our backs strong! Strengthening is important for improving the load tolerance of backs and our bodies as a whole - a concept we apply to rehabilitation after a low back injury or gradual-onset low back pain, and also prevention of re-injury.
πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

It’s day three of our LBP venture, and today, we’re tackling the myth that everyday loading and bending leads to backs β€˜wearing out’. ! In fact, the same way that lifting weights makes muscles stronger, moving and loading can make the back stronger and healthier. Just make sure you start gradually and practice regularly.
