I often talk about joint protection when dealing with the effects of arthritis in our hands. Here is some information that may be helpful for those interested in protecting their joints to minimise stress and decrease pain.

Using joint protection techniques is a great way to relieve pain and reduce the strain we place on our joints.

Splinting, using stronger joints and assistive equipment are all examples of joint protection techniques.

This article is adapted from our friends at Arthritis UK, read the article below for tips on joint protection strategies.

Ten weeks ago today I closed my clinic door on what was a very wet Monday. Little did I know that less than 36 hours later the Manning River would be a very unwelcome visitor to my clinic and lead to devastation to so many in our area. I have always felt I was one of the lucky ones with a low level of inundation as well as being fortunate to temporarily move my clinic to enable me to keep working. Today I have officially moved back to my clinic after a long 10 weeks. Ahhhh it feels so nice to be back.

Vital Physio will be closed today and tomorrow but will reopen on Wednesday July 2nd. I have travelled to Brisbane to see the wonderful Bodyworlds exhibition titled the Anatomy of Happiness. This is an anatomy exhibition that travels the world that I first saw in London over 20 years ago. This time I have brought my son who is a next generation Physiotherapist in the making. Simply amazing.

All of those affected by the recent floods need your help to sign the Flood Recovery Petition in order for our community to rebuild and recover with increased funding. We need 20,000 online signatures to be formally debated in the Legislative Assembly.

🚨 URGENT: FLOOD COMMUNITIES LEFT BEHIND

The Mid North Coast and Hunter are still reeling — families, farmers and small businesses need real support, now!

Our ePetition is now LIVE. We’re calling on the NSW Government to deliver Category C & D disaster funding — like they’ve done before — to help us rebuild.

This week we acknowledge the amazing work of hand therapists across the country who help people regain strength, movement, and independence in their hands and upper limbs.

Whether it’s recovering from surgery, managing pain, healing an injury, or improving function after conditions like carpal tunnel or arthritis — hand therapy plays a crucial role in getting people back to doing the things they love.

At Vital Physio I am proud to be part of this dedicated community. Thank you to all the patients, referrers, and colleagues who support what I do every day.

Here’s to hands that heal and hands that help!

I am slowly getting back to seeing clients but it has been very difficult. I am still without power, internet and a functioning phone. All phone calls are diverted to my mobile phone. I do not have any HICAPS facilities available at present. I am hoping that by close of business Monday I will have power and things will be working again. My fingers and toes are crossed! I will then be able to start rebooking appointments for those who had their appointments cancelled when my clinic was closed. This will take me some time. I appreciate your understanding during this difficult time for everyone.

I am planning on reopening Thursday 29th May in temporary premises directly upstairs from where I have been. The stairs are directly opposite my old door. Turn left at the top of the stairs and you will find me.

I do not yet have any power, internet or eftpos/HICAPS facilities available. Hopefully (fingers crossed) these will be all working at some stage next week. But I have no exact timeframes so my return will be slow. I will not be able to make any splints until power is available .

I have a lot of people that I need to reschedule appointments for. This is going to take me some time and it won’t happen immediately. I am hurting along with many thousands of people in our community and it will need to be one step and one day at a time. Please be patient. I will contact everyone as soon as I can.

In the meantime if you need to contact me you can ring me on 65513064 as all calls to my landline are being diverted to my mobile.

Thank you for your patience as we all try to rebuild our community.

The arduous cleanup process continues for many in Taree and surrounding areas. My thoughts are with everyone impacted. At Vital Physio, all flood-damaged furniture was removed today and the carpet was ripped up.

I have been busy trying to organise a temporary office space which is located directly above my flooded rooms. I am not ready to reopen yet with still some things to sort out (electricity is one of them).

Everything is now out of the clinic and waiting to be picked up. It’s quite sad to see damaged belongings filling the Arcade and my empty muddy room left behind. But I do know I am one of the luckiest businesses in Taree and my heart breaks for those who have lost so much more in the last few days.

23/05/2025

While the clean up continues the pelicans are enjoying some peaceful Manning River water at the back of the River Arcade. What an absolute contrast to a few days ago.

23/05/2025

And so the clean up continues for Taree. Heavy thick sludge at the river end of Pulteney Street.
