I just want to take a minute to thank my Team at KIARA… The people i work with/alongside and your families. 🫶🏽

Each and every one of you have been so incredibly supportive over the last few weeks with me loosing my mum, and her partner 8 weeks prior. This time has been incredibly difficult for me. Not only have I lost my mum and her partner, but we have lost two incredible disability support workers (while my mum was now retired, she had been a support worker for years).
I can’t express my gratitude enough to you all and your family menbers who have sent messages, flowers, called and regularly checked in on me and my family.
It’s honestly touched me and encouraged me through this hard time.
I will be forever proud of this team and thankful you have all chosen me to be part of your journey.

Coercion… and control. Have no place in disability support 🤦🏼‍♀️

The trouble is that coercion often doesn’t feel like coercion to the person using it. It feels like helping. It feels like moving the day along. It feels like doing your job.

Hi everyone,

Given the next 24-48 hours are scheduled to be a ‘catastrophic’ rating I have put up some useful information regarding the rating, the location, what you should do and some important numbers (incl apps and sites) should you need further information.
Please everyone stay safe, our KIARA team has rescheduled tomorrow’s shifts to best keep everyone safe. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.

One thing you won’t see at KIARA is staff sitting up the front talking to each other and ignoring the rest of the team in the back.
This is one thing that i see daily (from other organisations) and it so so incredibly demeaning. Our Team choose the music, sit in the front and are always Treated respectfully.
As you see in this pic we have a staff member driving the car, a Team member next to her, and I’m in the back with some other Team members.

From an NDIS and duty-of-care perspective, participants should only be required to sit in the back seat (with two staff in front) for documented safety reasons, such as airbag risk, medical or behavioural considerations that could affect driving safety, inability to safely wear a seatbelt, legal child-restraint requirements, mobility or transfer safety needs, or specific vehicle or insurance restrictions. Staff preference, convenience, or undocumented “rules” are not valid reasons, and any seating restriction must be individual, justified, and the least restrictive option. 🩷

Merry Christmas to each and every one of our KIARA crew members, your families and all of our supporters.
Was quite a year, many ups and downs (mostly ups), We learned new skills, we were challenged, we achieved many goals and always had fun along the way.
I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a nice (safe) festive break 💚❤️
