This month is Movember.

Movember raises awareness and funds for men's health by encouraging men to grow moustaches in November to start conversations about the health issues that affect them. The global movement focuses on four main areas: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.

Today is World Osteoporosis Day.

Despite affecting over 500 million people worldwide, Osteoporosis remains severely underdiagnosed and undertreated—especially among those who have already sustained fragility fractures. Shockingly, up to 80% of patients with osteoporotic fractures receive no follow-up diagnosis or treatment. The consequences are devastating: chronic pain, disability, loss of independence, increased risk of future fractures, and premature death. Families, healthcare systems, and economies also shoulder the heavy burden of this neglect.

'It’s Unacceptable!" is the theme for World Osteoporosis Day this year. It calls on the public, healthcare providers, and health authorities to close the treatment gap, dismantle misconceptions, and make bone health a global priority.

Today is World Menopause Day.

Menopause generally happens between the ages 45 and 55. The average age of menopause in Australia is 51. Menopause is the point in time when a woman hasn't had a period for 12 consecutive months.

While this change usually happens naturally as hormone levels decline, it can also occur earlier because of surgery that removes the ovaries, or due to certain medical treatments such as chemotherapy.

There are three stages in this transition:

Perimenopause – the time leading up to menopause, when hormone levels fluctuate and many women begin to experience symptoms. This phase can last from one to 10 years.

Menopause – confirmed when a woman has gone 12 consecutive months without a period.

Post-menopause – the years after menopause, when symptoms may ease but the long-term effects of lower oestrogen, such as changes to bone and heart health, become more important.

It is important to talk about Menopause so it can be better understood and appropriately managed.

This week is National Carers Week.

More than 1 in 10 Victorians provide unpaid care and support to a family member, a friend with disability, mental illness, chronic or terminal illness or an older person with needs.

National Carers Week celebrates and recognizes all of Victorias unpaid carers. We encourage you to show support for the carers in your life by making them feel seen and letting them know how much you appreciate what they’re doing. August is Tradies National Health Month (TNHM).

The campaign established by the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) raises awareness of the physical and mental challenges faced by those in trade professions.

A recent survey of tradies from across the country has revealed the following challenges faced by them in the past year:
* Over 90% of tradies experienced work-related injuries or pain in the past year, with 90% of these injuries caused or worsened by work.
* 76% reported pain significantly impacts their quality of life.
* 42% described their pain as severe, with some suffering for months or even years.
* 87% medicate or self-medicate to manage their pain, with 30% resorting to drugs or alcohol.
* 24% fear they will need to retire early due to stress on their bodies.

August is Tradies National Health Month, a campaign established by the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) to highlight the unique position of physiotherapists in preventing and treating musculoskeletal issues that plague tradies throughout their careers.

In 2025, Australia continues to face critical trade shortages and growing infrastructure demands. Now more than ever, it’s vital to invest in the health of our tradie workforce–because when tradies thrive, our communities do too.

This week is Donate Life week.

While 4 in 5 Australians support organ and tissue donation, only 36% of the eligible population are registered as donors on the Australian Organ Donor Register.

There are around 1,800 people on the waitlist for a transplant and an additional 14,000 people on dialysis, many who may benefit from a kidney transplant. Australia needs more registered donors to help give them a second chance at life.

If you know you want to be a donor, take two simple steps:

1. Register at donatelife.gov.au

2. Tell your family you’ve registered and that you want to be donor.

Somebody’s life could depend on it.
