Today I had the privilege facilitating a First Aid Course for this dedicated team of ladies from Shaping Outcomes.

Shaping Outcomes is a not for profit organisation supporting children and their families with disability or developmental delay from birth to transition to school. Early childhood intervention provides therapy and or education, counselling, service planning and coordination, assistance and support to access services like childcare and kindergartens.

The team from Shaping Outcomes were put through their paces in all facets of First Aid Emergencies.

4 hours classroom training and assessment

• CPPFES2004A - Identity types of installed fire safety equipment and systems

• CPPFES2005A - Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment

• PUAWER004B - Respond to workplace emergencies

This training is suitable for companies and organisations which require selected staff members to be trained as building emergency wardens, and will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage building emergencies.

Response Training Solutions facilitated Low Voltage Rescue and CPR training this week for all the electricians at Chris Annand Electrical.

The team conducted a range of scenarios and assessments whilst performing there 12 monthly certification.

COURSE CONTENTS

• Prepare to perform rescue procedures from live LV panel
• Carry out rescue from live LV panel
• Complete the LV panel rescue procedure
• DRSABCD Action Plan
• Managing the unconscious casualty
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

DURATION

4 hours classroom training and assessment.

STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT ISSUED

• UETTDERRF06B - Perform rescue from a live LV panel

• HLTAID001 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

These competency standard unit's cover the performance of rescue procedures from a live Low Voltage apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace. It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel encompassing responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels.

EPIPEN RECALL

Four batches of the EpiPen 300 microgram adrenaline injection syringe auto injectors recalled over concerns it may contain a defective part that could result in the auto injector failing to activate or a need to apply more force than normal to activate.

Check link for affected batches.

COURSE CONTENTS

• DRSABCD Action Plan
• Managing the unconscious casualty
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Trauma & Medical emergencies
• Bites and stings
• Emergency management of asthma and anaphylaxis

DURATION

Option 1 - Full Course 16 hours classroom training and assessment.

Option 2 - Refresher 8 hours classroom training and assessment with the completion of a pre-course workbook.

STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT ISSUED

• HLTAID004 - Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting
• HLTAID003 - Provide first aid
• HLTAID002 - Provide basic emergency life support
• HLTAID001 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

RECERTIFICATION

• Valid 3 years from the completion date
• Annual refreshers recommended to maintain current CPR skills

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response to infants, children and adults, until the arrival of medical assistance.
