The November 2025 government changes regarding direct patient billing or bulk billing

Theodore Medical Centre has made the decision to continue mixed billing practice, in order to continue to provide comprehensive care and support the care provided by our nursing, Aboriginal health, and AIN staff.

What this means:
Health care card holders, Pension card holders, and Close the Gap patients will continue to be bulk billed.
75year+ Health Assessments, Mental Health Care Plans, & Chronic Condition Management Plans, i.e. ‘care plan’ consults will continue to be bulk billed.
Appropriate phone consults will continue to be bulk billed.
All other patients will be subject to a private fee.

Important Notice: IT Software Upgrade

Theodore Medical Centre has received approval for a major IT software upgrade as of yesterday afternoon. This marks our most significant technology update since 1998 when Theodore Medical transitioned to the software we use today.

This decision reflects our long-term vision to modernise the practice and prepare for the next two decades. Our existing software has become increasingly unstable and buggy over the past year, and with advances in modern systems and hardware, this upgrade is both necessary and overdue.

The transition will take place over the weekend, with the upgrade being finalised on Monday morning when we go live and connect the new system to Medicare.

Please be patient and kind to our staff and doctors over the next two weeks as they adapt to the new system. Change can be challenging, but this upgrade will ultimately improve efficiency, reliability, and patient care across the board.

After the 30th of September, influenza vaccines will only be free to patients who meet certain criteria.

Dr. Travis Boon and his wife, Gina Boon, have decided to settle in Theodore for the long term and raise their growing family, continuing their involvement in our wonderful community.

Dr. Boon grew up in Augathella, where his father served as the sole doctor in town, working as a GP and in the hospital, much like the setup in Theodore. This background has given Dr. Boon a deep appreciation for small-town healthcare and community connections.

We would also like to acknowledge the contributions of Gina Boon. In her short time here in Theodore, she has taken on the role of Vice-President at TCL and has most recently assisted with the town rodeo at the ticket gate. She continues to lend a hand to help out with community groups and events. Her involvement has made a positive impact on our community, and we are grateful for her enthusiasm and commitment.
