FLOW LIKE A RIVER...

During our morning circle at Wild Space, we always ask the children what they'd like to do during the day.

More often than not, several children will share a desire to go to the river!

When the decision is made, there's this excitement that begins to build amongst them...

The packing of bags - lunch, water, swimmers and towels.

The walk to the river - where a little crew will always run ahead in anticipation.

The decisions of kayaks and who will pair up with who?

The launch - which often comes with a moment of silence before the giggles kick in.

And the freedom - to paddle, explore, play, jump in, swim...

Just like the river, from here, our day just seems to flow 🌿🛶💛

WILD SPACE - FULLY BOOKED!

For the third term in a row, we have a fully booked program!

I just love this space so much - the families, the children, the deep connections...

While I may have one child in school now, I continue to be an advocate for self-directed learning and cultural repair.

Holding space for families to come together, to learn, and rebuild a sense of village has become a cornerstone of my work today.

Whatever my children decide to do, I'll continue to hold this space because it's what our culture needs more than anything!

YOU WANT TO DO WHAT???

This is the face of a mama who's just dropped her 12 year old (unschooled child) off at SCHOOL!

I wanted to do a video but honestly, right now, I'm just not sure what to say (or even how I feel).

It's like someone's walked into a dam and stirred up all the sediment - and now I'm standing in all the muck (not to say the muck is bad).

Several weeks ago, Oli (my 12 year old) said he'd like to go back to school - after 5+ YEARS of unschooling!

That's 5 years of untangling from the system, letting go of all we were taught and trusting in his own unique journey.

In this time, I've become THE biggest advocate for unschooling / self-directed learning - I even wrote a guidebook on the subject!

After all my study, research and lived experience, I never expected him to CHOOSE to go back to school!

But the thing with self directed learning, is knowing that you have a choice - and Oli knew he always had a choice.

As his mama, I can only hold and support him - and help him make decisions that feel right and aligned for him (not me).

Just as I shared with his school (when asked why we'd like to return) - I didn't choose this for him, he chose this for himself!

DOORS CLOSING SOON...

Our 6th round of Wild Quest is coming up soon, and the doors are only open for a little while longer!

Doors close on Monday 6th October (10 days before we meet) to allow time to prepare - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually!

The quest itself is an incredibly powerful practice and rite of passage for those navigating a change or new phase in their lives!

PICTURE THIS...

Not long ago, you said yes to this crazy idea of spending 24 hours alone in the wild!!

A part of you (your ego) tried to stop you! Seriously, who would choose to do something like this?

But another part - the part you've come to know as your 'wild soul' - just kept whispering 'go'!

So, now you're here in the forest, on your own, and it's dark, and you can't find your head-torch, and.... 'What the bleep was that noise???'

Your heart is literally racing a hundred miles an hour! Something is coming for you!!

Whoever said the night was quiet needs to come and sit here right now - because the forest at night is NOT quiet!

There are sounds you've never heard before - clicks and squeaks and calls that have you darting every which way!

And then, as your eyes start to adjust to the dark, you see a spotlight! Actually, you see several spotlights - WTF!

'I was right,' your ego says - 'Its not safe out here, look, they're coming for you, not just one, but MANY!'

You try and work out how to get the hell out of there, and then... slowly, slowly, you realise...

It's not spotlights. There's no one coming for you.

ITS FIREFLIES - hundreds of fireflies!!

They stop you in your tracks, and suddenly, as if out of nowhere you're engulfed in their MAGIC.....

WILL YOU SAY YES?

Sometimes, we'll say yes to things without really knowing why?

We might have all the valid reasons to say no...

It's not a good time to take a few days off work.

We've just spent all that money getting the car serviced.

One of the kids has a game over the weekend we 'should' go to.

But this time, we chose to listen to that (much quieter) voice within.

The one that's been whispering, 'go, you need this!'

We may not know why - sometimes the 'why' doesn't come until much later.

We just know - our soul knows...

There's something waiting for us on the other side of 'yes'!

WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO DO THIS???

Why would you choose to go into the forest alone?

To spend 24 hours - from dawn to dawn, with

No food or drinks (apart from water)

No technology - phone, music, etc

No books or journals

No instruments

Just you, a warm blanket, a tent (or perhaps even just a tarp)?

You'd have to be crazy, right?

Actually no, you'd be the opposite of crazy!

This world we live in is crazy - the way we live our lives is crazy!

And often, its not until we step out and take away all the things that distract us, that we even realise this.

When we sit in wild nature, LIFE (real life, not this illusion we live in) opens up to us.

Without the distractions, we begin to notice life happening all around us.

🌿 The tiny shrub wrens hopping amongst the lomandra

🐦 The robin sitting on a nearby branch, watching us curiously

🦎 The water dragon sunning itself on the rocks by the creek

🦋 The butterflies and dragonflies dancing above the deep pools

🦘The wallabies with their joeys hopping by our camp at dusk

✨️The fireflies that come out of no where when darkness arrives

🦉The owl who's call echo's through the forest at night...

24 hours (or dawn to dusk) in the forest, changes us - it transforms us!

We finally see (and feel) that we're not seperate to it all. We're a part of nature - we are nature!

Just like the birds and animals and insects and plants, we each have a unique purpose - a role to play.

Coming home to nature, helps us remember what this is!!

So I invite you to get out there and spend some time in wild nature - spend a night out there!

THE LAND JUST KNOWS 🌿

I read something this morning that resonated so deeply....

'When a woman bleeds (menstruates) on the earth, she intelligently receives, feels and provides everything we need...

So if we have a nutrient deficiency, the food grown on the land will produce the nutrients our body needs to come back into balance, health and harmony.'

I feel something very similar happens when we consciously sit (with intention) on the earth.

She tunes into our energy, listens to our stories, absorbs our tears, and offers a reflection - drawing our attention to certain elements in nature.

When she knows we're listening - deeply listening - with all our senses, she'll show us exactly what we need to navigate whatever it is were going through.

She'll reveal the answers to our deepest questions, help us understand our pain, fears, and trauma, and gently guide us back on our path.

Our problem is that most of us are just too busy to pause and listen.

We run around like mad men, spiralling around the same issue or problem, seeking advice from anyone and everyone but ourselves.

And all the while, she's right there, patiently waiting for us to come home and just ask for her support.
