Dianne was a really beautiful human- clever, compassionate, elegant, kind, and an absolute stunner.โฃ
โฃ
She and her soulmate Michael turned a faded mansion into a lush, rambling, art filled space and her happy place was the gorgeous walled garden and pool. So many happy years of love and connection and creativity spent here. โฃ
โฃ
Dianne spent her final midsummer day by the pool, awaiting her manโs return from the hospital. There in the water she slipped away and into the depths, resting there looking like a mermaid, her arms outstretched as if in an embrace.โฃ
โฃ
To stand in witness to what Michael called the transitioning - the walking through the bereft, transcendent, messy, heartbroken, tender acts of farewell. โฃ
โฃ
To bring Dianne home, and lay her on her chaise, where she lay in state, radiant and regal as her beloveds marvelled at her, wept and whispered all the words. To watch the parade of candles through the house, to the pool. Rather than making the pool a scorned space they lit it ablaze with spark of love and remembrance.โฃ
โฃ
To hear Michael hold court at Diโs feet sharing stories, music (so much Leonard Cohen; her favourite), and him explaining why this act of washing, dressing and laying out his love in the parlour - why this was so incredibly important.โฃ
โฃ
Thank you Michael for inviting us to join you in this incredible act of farewell. โฃ
