October 23rd is recognised globally as PURA Syndrome Awareness Day. It's a day to raise awareness and understanding of PURA syndrome across the world. 💜

The date marks the publication of a paper on PURA syndrome (October 23rd 2014) by Dr David Hunt and colleagues. Among the co-authors were Australian researchers Prof Richard Leventer, Dr Cas Simons and Dr Ryan Taft, with the first Australian PURA patient included in the study. 👏

11 years later, our understanding of PURA syndrome continues to grow through the efforts of Foundations, scientists, clinicians and families around the world. ⭐

The PURA Foundation Australia is dedicated to supporting individuals with PURA syndrome and their families. We aim to accelerate understanding of PURA syndrome, expand clinical and scientific research, develop educational resources and help pave the way for future precision therapies.

Alone we are rare. Together we are strong. 💜

Diwali—Festival of Lights

Diwali is the "Festival of Lights," which celebrates the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

The name "Diwali" comes from the Sanskrit word "Deepavali," meaning "row of lights," referring to the lamps lit to celebrate the victory of light and righteousness.

It’s Invisible Disabilities Week (19–25 October)! 🌻

Around 80–85% of people with a disability have one that isn’t visible. These include neurological, cognitive, sensory, mental health, and chronic conditions that aren’t always immediately apparent.

Not all disabilities are visible — but a little understanding and kindness can go a long way in making everyone feel seen and supported.

ADHD Awareness Month is observed every October to raise understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

It aims to provide reliable information, dispel myths, and encourage support for those with ADHD by focusing on key themes like "Awareness is Key".

The month is a time for education, open dialogue about the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals, and finding resources and supports.

What Is World Cerebral Palsy Day?
Each year, World Cerebral Palsy Day brings together people from around the globe to celebrate achievements, highlight challenges, and advocate for a more inclusive world.

One way to get involved is by participating in road races like fun runs and 5Ks. These events welcome all skill levels and create opportunities for caregivers, families, and supporters to unite for a cause.
