💪 Client Spotlight: Karl’s Journey with Exercise Physiology 💪

Since starting EP Karl has:
✨ Improved his balance and endurance, now able to stand longer and do his own grocery shopping something he hadn’t been able to do for years.
⚽ Gained the ability to kick an AFL football again (one of his biggest passions!)
🏃‍♂️ Increased his independence in daily tasks like washing, dishes, and community activities.

With the guidance and expertise of his Exercise Physiologists April and Scarlett, Karl has developed the skills and confidence to safely exercise, continue progressing toward his goals, and maintain his wellbeing both physically and mentally.

We’re so proud of Karl’s progress and the incredible effort he puts in each week! 💚

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Neuro Alliance Paediatric Upper Limb (UL) Service!

Our Paediatric UL OT Team Nat, Emma, and El are passionate about supporting children to achieve their best possible hand and arm function, and we’re excited to be expanding further into this specialised space.

When to consider a referral to our Paediatric UL Team:
👋 When a child’s hand or arm function isn’t developing as expected, despite your usual interventions.
💪 When you observe posturing that varies from normal in resting or active positions.
🤝 When a second opinion on upper limb management may be helpful.

What our service can offer:
🔸Comprehensive initial and formalised assessments including the Assisting Hand Assessment (AHA) for children with hemiplegic CP (2–18 years).
🔸 Targeted therapy blocks or guidance for ongoing therapy teams.
🔸 Support with spasticity management and custom splinting where indicated.
🔸Collaboration with HNE Health Rehab Team as needed.
🔸Assistance with functional UL goals such as feeding and switching.

We typically see clients with Cerebral Palsy (CP), those at risk of CP, or with rare genetic conditions affecting upper limb function.

If you have clients who may benefit from a review by our UL Service, please reach out to discuss or via our online referral form

OTs Alice and Emma in Action! 🧡 Here they are completing a MAT evaluation for a new manual wheelchair.

A MAT assessment is a key step in ensuring the correct seating and positioning of clients in their mobility devices - supporting independence, comfort, and participation in the activities that matter most. 💪

It’s all about helping clients get back to doing what they love and staying engaged in their community. 🌟

Mark loves to read, but recently his hands were getting tired, and turning pages became really difficult, meaning he wasn’t reading as much.

Our amazing OT, Nat, came up with a clever solution! She designed a custom page turner using thermoplastic, allowing Mark to keep enjoying his books despite living with MND.

Now, he’s back to reading daily and couldn’t be happier. 💛
A perfect example of OT Nat in Action! 👏

OT Week is officially kicking off with OT Day! 🎉
We’re loving this year’s theme >> “OTs in Action” 💪
We can’t wait to share how creative, resourceful, and dedicated our OTs are when it comes to problem solving and supporting their clients to achieve their goals. 💛

🚨 Attention! The NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee (EAC) has advised that Exercise Physiology (EP) will be reviewed by a panel.

What this means:
The future of Exercise Physiology as a funded NDIS support is being assessed. The EAC will consider whether EP:
• Is effective for people with disabilities
• Provides value for service
• Cannot be substituted by other supports
• Supports greater independence and participation

If the EAC is not satisfied, they may recommend that EP is no longer funded under NDIS.

Why your voice matters: Participation by EP providers, clinicians, researchers, and NDIS participants is critical. Your input helps ensure the real-world value of Exercise Physiology is recognised and protected.

✨ PKF Hunter Breast Care Breakfast ✨
This morning our Neuro Alliance women in leadership came together for the annual Hunter Breast Care Breakfast.

🌸 An incredible $68,299 was raised to support our local breast care nurses who are the heart of care, education, and emotional support across the Hunter region.

🎀 Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Australia, with 1 in 7 women and 1 in 556 men facing a lifetime risk. These numbers remind us that it affects people of all genders and ages, and how much community support matters.

🤍 The morning was filled with stories from engaging speakers, a delicious breakfast, and incredible generosity from local businesses.

💗We’re proud to stand alongside so many others and support this meaningful cause each year.
