As a registered Training Organisation (RTO91279) our core business is to provide our clients/learners with Nationally Recognised Training courses that are compliant with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), relevant legislation and Australian Standards. Thurgoona Training Academy is a family owned and operated business employing eight staff, six knowledgeable and professional trainers/assessors who all hold vocational competencies in their respective areas of delivery. Our head office is located in Thurgoona NSW, and provides a professional and relaxed venue on a large rural property overlooking the distant hills of the Hume Dam and Mount Bogong. Our purpose built facility comprises of three training rooms, Confined Space Underground Tunnel system, 10 meter vertical tower, Open air live fire pit, Compartment Fire Behaviour Training simulator, 2 storey evacuation simulator and confined space

Today we were on site at the Old Bendigo Gold Mine providing Confined Space Standby and Rescue support for TECHNOCRETE during the internal inspection of a steel fire water tank.

Confined spaces present unique risks, and having a dedicated standby and rescue capability in place ensures the work can be carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with legislative requirements.

Working alongside S and R ENGINEERING, the inspection was completed smoothly, with all safety systems, entry procedures, and rescue preparedness in place from start to finish.

This is exactly why confined space standby support is critical — not because something will go wrong, but to ensure everything goes right.

Mobile training in Action - Tumut

Yesterday the team from Grealy Motors & Towing Service delivered our 20ft mobile training container to site, and this morning we had it fully set up and operational at Visy Tumut.

From truck to training-ready in under 90 minutes 💪

Over the next few weeks we’ll be delivering Work Safely at Heights (RIIWHS204E) with practical components for the crew on site — real equipment, real scenarios, and hands-on learning that mirrors the workplace.

Big day of learning (and a few laughs) at Thurgoona Training Academy 👏

Yesterday we kicked off our first Trainer Development Day for 2026, and what a way to start.

A huge thanks to Mark Shales and Vaughn Rose from 3M who brought their drop test trailer and height safety equipment directly to our site. Seeing the gear tested live and under real load is a game changer – there’s nothing like watching the science behind fall protection in action.

Our trainers were onsite for a day of:
✔️ professional development
✔️ practical demonstrations
✔️ equipment updates
✔️ industry best practice discussions
✔️ and of course… a few jokes along the way

Days like this make sure our team stays sharp, current and confident — so our students always get the highest quality training possible.

We had a great training-development morning today with the crew from Beaver Technology Services (BTS) — big thanks to Micheal and Steven for bringing along their tripod, davit arm and AirHook trailer 👷‍♂️🔧

Our trainers got hands-on practical experience setting up and using the gear, including BTS’s mobile overhead fall-protection system: the BTS AirHook Trailer. This trailer-mounted system gives a full overhead anchor point for up to two workers. It’s rated and compliant under AS/NZS 5532:2013 and is designed to be tow-able under road conditions — perfect for remote jobs, maintenance, height work or anywhere a permanent anchor isn’t available. With mast heights up to 7 m and a 1.3 m offset, it sets up in about five minutes and folds down neatly for transport.

It was great to see how quickly the team picked it up — and we can already see so many applications: height-safety work, rescues, maintenance, high vehicle access and more.

From caged ladders to fall arrest, participants got hands-on experience managing real-world risks while learning the right safety systems and procedures to stay compliant and confident at height.

Snowy Hydro Emergency Response Team Training. 3 days spent with 9 fantastic new members from different regions.

From Monday morning through to Wednesday afternoon, the team pushed themselves through three intensive days of structural firefighting training.

The transformation has been incredible – the growth in skills, confidence, and teamwork in such a short time is nothing short of remarkable. It never ceases to amaze us how much is achieved in just three days: from the very first drill to the final scenarios, the progress has been outstanding.

Huge credit to Ben, Chloe, Dean, Dwayne, Murray, Nic, Shae, Tahnh, Walshy for their effort, commitment, and determination – what you’ve accomplished this week is something to be proud of!
