Welcome back Tarin! Come in and catch up with Tarin, our locum pharmacist who is back for the week. Tarin has also recently completed her Full scope pharmacy training and is able to consult and prescribe certain medications if indicated.

In summer we often see more cases of gastroenteritis (gastro). Reduce the spread of gastroenteritis by:
-practicing hand sanitising at social functions
- putting food away in the fridge (leaving food out in warmer temperatures spoils food faster)
-avoid drinking water from lakes, dams or pools that is untreated
- Stay hydrated when outdoors. Often water is not enough. As we sweat we lose salts and sugars which need to be balanced to keep us hydrated. (Use electrolyte replacement sachets available in the pharmacy)

If you have nausea or vomitting our pharmacists are able to have a consultation with you and write a prescription for you to manage your symptoms.

Today is world diabetes day. Almost 5% of the population live with type 2 diabetes. Risk factors for developing the disease include:
-Being overweight
- Family history of the disease
- Lifestyle factors including lack of exercise and poor diet. 🍩🍰🍫

Complications of diabetes include:
- Long term chronic kidney disease🫘
- Heart problems🫀
- Problems with vision👁️
- Problems with wound healing and circulation
- Tooth and gum disease🦷
- Nerve damage.🦿
The good news is that early lifestyle adjustments and/or medication can significantly delay the progression of the disease.
If you are over 40 years old, see us to book a screening test to see if you are at risk. Screening test involves:
-using the AUSDRISK calculator to determine your risk score
- optional HbA1c and cholesterol test
- option to book a consultation with our nutritionist to develop a dietary plan tailored to suit you.

Leading into international diabetes day, the lovely ladies from Roche came out on Friday to train us to use the new “Point of Care “ test.
These are a device that can screen for diabetes and cardiovascular risks, testing HbA1c and also lipids and cholesterol. Early detection and intervention helps reduce kidney disease and cardiovascular events. We will have ours available in our store in the upcoming weeks.
They have also given us some FREE Accucheck Guide Me machines to give away to our patients with type 2 diabetes who have an older machine of a different brand. Bring in your old machine for a swap!

We can now write a prescription for you to treat school sores.
School sores (impetigo) are a contagious bacterial infection and often appear as red itchy blisters with a yellow crust.

Our pharmacists are now able to write a prescription for you for shingles antiviral tablets.
See us to book a consultation.

Antivirals only work within the first 72 hours of presenting symptoms. The earlier within this time frame being the better for reduced complications.
Shingles presents as a blistering painful rash. People of any age can get shingles but it is more commonly seen in older adults, people who are immune compromised and those who are under high levels of stress or run down.
Complications of untreated shingles can include prolonged nerve pain and in rare cases, hearing loss or blindness.
