Established in the heart of Adelaide’s eastern suburbs, our flagship hospital offers 76 beds, five operating theatres, a dedicated maternity unit, a high dependency unit, and a range of specialist and surgical services. With a team-based focus on patient safety, comfort, and best practice clinical care, our Toorak Gardens location continues to provide a range of advanced healthcare services for South Australians. Meet Dr Dania Qatarneh, an experienced ophthalmic surgeon with expertise in cataract care and the treatment of retinal diseases. 👁️✨

Dr Qatarneh graduated with Honours from Cambridge University before completing specialist training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and further fellowship training in cataract and retinal surgery in both the UK and Melbourne.

She brings extensive experience in managing routine and complex cataracts, as well as advanced retinal treatments including laser, injections, and implants for conditions such as diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and uveitis.

Now based in Adelaide, she holds a consultant role at Flinders Medical Centre and continues to mentor future ophthalmologists.

Dr Qatarneh practices privately at Adelaide Eye Surgeons, providing personalised, high-quality care across three locations. 💙

STEPNEY HOLIDAY CLOSURE

The Stepney site will be closed to public access from 5 PM today and will reopen at 6 AM on Monday, 5th January.

Please note that the site will remain monitored, but public entry will not be available during this period.

Patients requiring post-discharge advice should contact their referring doctor’s rooms, or alternatively, call our Toorak Gardens site for guidance.

Hannah and Jing, our amazing Oncology nurses at the Brian Fricker Oncology Centre, have successfully completed their Graduate Diploma in Nursing Science (Oncology Nursing)! 🩺✨

Completing this course over 2 years while working full time and raising young families is no small feat. We’re incredibly proud of their dedication, resilience, and hard work.

What a night of festive fun, great company, and non-stop dancing! 🎄💙

Last week we celebrated our Burnside Hospital Christmas Party at The Parkside Hotel — a night filled with laughter, great food, and incredible energy.

A huge thank you to for their vibrant Brazilian Samba performance, for the saxophonist who kept the room buzzing, and for keeping the dance floor absolutely electric all night long.

It was wonderful to come together, reflect on the year, and celebrate our amazing team.

Nurses from both our Stepney and Toorak Gardens sites came together to celebrate a year of learning, connection, and growth — finishing the program on a strong and positive note.

We’re so proud of their dedication and commitment throughout the year. 💙

In the high-stakes environment of the operating theatre, a "Can’t Intubate, Can’t Oxygenate" (CICO) crisis is the scenario every clinician prepares for but hopes to never face. Recently, our hospital took a significant step forward in patient safety by sending three selected staff members to the exclusive CICO SA workshop.

With only three spots available this year, this was a unique opportunity for high-level staff development. The intensive training focused on the "Vortex" approach, a cognitive tool designed to simplify decision-making during acute time pressure.

Beyond the technical skills of surgical airway management, the workshop emphasised the critical "human factors" of emergency medicine. Our staff mastered the art of dynamic team support, learning exactly how to assist anesthetists by reducing cognitive load and preparing equipment before it is requested.

This training ensures the attendees return not just with technical knowledge, but with the ability to foster calm, structured communication during an airway emergency

EDUCATION AT BURNSIDE ✨

On Saturday, our team took part in an interactive airway emergencies education session, featuring hands-on small-group activities with airway equipment and simulation training led by Anaesthetic CN Leon Tandor and Anaesthetist Dr David Bednarczuk.

It was fantastic to see strong attendance from nurses across both Toorak Gardens and Stepney — thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to continuous learning.
