Story time 🌀
The first time I became aware of body wisdom and how the body speaks to us, I was 8.
My mum, sister, and I were at a crossroads in life. We lived at the coast, had just left our long-term rental, and moved into another place that felt temporary, more of an “in-between” house.
I remember my mum pulling her neck out really badly, specifically on the right side. She was in pain and could hardly move.
At the same time, my dad was trying to convince her to move to Toowoomba. Houses were more affordable, her chances of owning her own home were much higher, and it was a great place to raise us girls.
But my mum was a hard no. She loved the coast. We were settled at school. She was stubborn in her belief that the coast was where we’d stay. My dad was adamant though, and kept the pressure on.
After many sleepless nights, a lightbulb went off for my mum:
the neck pain and her inner conflict about moving were connected.
She said:
“I’m being stubborn and not listening to your dad’s ideas about moving. I think I need to be more open-minded.”
In not being able to move her neck freely, her body was showing her where she wasn’t moving freely in life.
She literally couldn’t “look to the side” her body was saying “You’re not looking at all sides of this. Be open.”
When she listened, her neck began to release. And where she had been stuck in life and decision-making, things also began to flow.
Spoiler alert: we did move to Toowoomba and it was the best decision my mum ever made (my dad was following his inner nudges on that one too).
That house, and that move, was a sliding doors moment for our family. My mum’s innate body wisdom was guiding her all along.
