Blush Cancer Care Inc What do we do ? BLUSH BREAST CARE NURSES
Blush Cancer Care co-funds the wages of the Blush Breast Care nurses at St Andrew’s hospital.

Blush Cancer Care provides education and support services that positively impact the wellbeing of patients and community members who have been affected by breast cancer in the Toowoomba and Darling Downs Region. The nurses have contact with approximately 200 + newly diagnosed patients each year. Just as importantly, they maintain contact with those who have completed their acute treatment. The importance of a Blush Nurse is invaluable, being able to provide expert and compassionate care to each breast cancer patient. The nurses help their patients navigate towards healthier lifestyles via education, practical and emotional support. FIGHT BACK WITH FITNESS
In conjunction with The Fit Lab Health & Fitness and Queensland X-Ray, Blush co-funds breast cancer patients in a 10 week exercise program to enhance their recovery and reduce recurrence of breast cancer! They attend three times a week for an hour under the care of trained exercise physiologists with a special interest in exercise post cancer. We are hoping to facilitate over 100 women through the program over the next two years. Designed for women diagnosed with breast cancer, regular exercise during and following treatment has shown to improve both physical and emotional health, the overall quality of life, and reduce recurrence of breast cancer. PATIENT FORUMS (educational /information)
The forums, which have run four years in a row, have local and visiting speakers and trade displays. The local breast cancer support personnel are also available throughout the day for access by current patients. The main focus of the forum is wellness in going forward post breast cancer diagnosis and what you can do to change your outcome. In previous years, we were proud to partner with the Prostate Foundation as the health and wellness aspects align with those of Blush Cancer Care. We have been able, due to the generosity of speakers and sponsors, been able to present this to our patients free of charge! BLUSH CARE PACKAGES
All patients, as soon as they begin treatment, receive a complimentary Blush care package. This package includes a variety of helpful items for the patient as they go through treatment. In 2015 Blush was the beneficiary of the Heritage Bank annual golf day (a charity fundraising event) and was given $10,000. This was a significant contribution to the continuing Care Package project! APPOINTMENT DIARY
The diaries help patients keep track of the many ongoing medical treatments and resulting appointments during their treatment. This is an invaluable resource for all patients, and their medical practitioners, as they make their way through the treatment phases. This is provided to patients at no cost and is generously supported by St Andrew’s Hospital inToowoomba.

What an amazing Breast Cancer Awareness Month it has been! October has been filled with overwhelming generosity, kindness and support for our breast cancer community and we are so grateful.

To top it off, we are absolutely thrilled to share the final tally from the P*P Solutions Blush Ball!

Thanks to our incredible sponsors, donors, guests and supporters, we made a stunning $64,650 profit!! These funds will go directly to continuing the services and support which Blush has already provided to over 1000 people in our region.

'We are local hairdressers and friends who work together and every year enjoy hosting a Blushing Pink event in our salon. We sell home made pickles, jams, earrings and crocheted goodies that either we have made, or that wonderful clients and friends have donated to help us raise money and awareness for breast cancer and Blush.' Our Story

Blush Cancer Care Inc was born in 2012 when the first ‘Survivors’ Forum’ and Blush Ball were held at the Empire Theatre. Since then we have held a Survivors’ Forum every year coupled with a Medical Forum and’Blush Goes Bush’ plus another Blush Ball in 2015, along with the annual Blush High Tea which is always a sell out event.

Blush was born to help Toowoomba’s private breast cancer nurses support their breast cancer patients from diagnosis to post treatment and beyond. Diagnosis brings enormous emotional upheaval for those affected along with their immediate and extended family. While it is necessary to devote funding for ongoing research it is imperative to support those who are in the midst of this illness. The ‘Survivors Forum’ became an annual event for those undergoing breast cancer treatment and their family and friends due to its popularity with patients and their loved ones. These forums have been specifically designed and geared to help out our families in the Darling Downs, South West catchment. Patients and their loved ones are given a platform to seek education, empathy and empower them in their options to cope with their diagnosis and its pathway. Guest speakers of the highest calibre host sessions enabling the participants to maximise their education on what Toowoomba can provide for them. It includes the complete gamut of treatment options. Funds raised for Blush all stay locally in our community. Funds are used to source local products to make up a ‘Breast Care Pack’ which is given to every newly diagnosed patient. They already receive information, so this is an added package recognising that this is a difficult time and to let them know we are here to support them. We have also purchased ipads with some of the funds raised to help patients stay in touch with loved ones while in hospital - either at St Vincent’s or St Andrew’s. In Toowoomba alone, we treat approximately 200 women so to be able to give each of these women recognition and empathy is a significant accomplishment.

We are here for the long journey to support those undergoing treatment for breast cancer and ask you to support Blush Cancer Care Inc.
