Last week, we learnt some very heartbreaking truths from CEO Jules at Hope for OUR Children

Hope For Our Children will be supporting close to 700 vulnerable children this Christmas in their Gifts of Hope Appeal! They will also be preparing Bags of Hope to provide children placed in the out of home care sector, escaping domestic and family violence or otherwise identified in immediate need of essential items to support them during a time of crisis.

This wonderful organisation needs all of our help!
The staff here at Scott Street Pharmacy can not imagine the thought of a child going without this Christmas, or not having essential items like toiletries or fresh clothes at any point of their childhood especially when in crisis, so we have created the following fundraisers:

🎁 Pop in store. Purchase a gift (or three) from our children and teens display (as pictured, or any toiletries or hair accessories, DONATE IT BACK By popping it in our Santa box and as a thank you from us, we will take 20% OFF ALL YOUR GIFTWARE PURCHASES. (So it's a great time for you to do your Chrissy shopping 😉)

🎁 Purchase a raffle ticket to go into the draw to win a $100 EFT card. $2/ticket or $5 for 3.
Purchase tickets in store or reach out to one of our staff members to grab you some tickets! Raffle drawn on 23rd December on Facebook and winner will be notified by phone right away so they can use $100 on last minute essentials or treats right before Christmas!

🎁 Make a monetary donation at our counters. Handed to Hope for our Children on the 23rd of December.

🎁 Drop off any gift or essential item to our store.

Together we can make a difference. 💕

However will continue to collect items to go in the Bags of Hope right through to the 23rd of Decemeber 2025.

❗️MEASLES OUTBREAK HAS REACHED TOOWOOMBA

The Toowoomba community is urged to be on alert for measles symptoms after Darling Downs Health has confirmed a person has visited several locations in Toowoomba whilst unknowingly infectious.

Exposure locations are:

📌Motion Toowoomba
Wednesday 5 November - 8.30am - 5.30pm
Thursday 6 November - 8.30am - 5.30pm
Friday 7 November - 8.30am - 5.30pm
📌 Empire Theatre Armitage Centre - “Heath Franklin's Chopper”
Friday 7 November - 6.30pm – 9.30pm
📌 Fitzy’s Toowoomba
Friday 7 November - 9:00pm – 10.45pm
📌 Toowoomba Hospital Emergency Department
Saturday 8 November - 2:45am – 4:07pm
📌 Toowoomba St. Andrews Private Hospital
Saturday 8 November 3:37pm to Saturday 15 November

👉 These sites do not pose an ongoing risk to people.

Executive Director Medical Services Dr Liam Flynn said measles is highly contagious and can spread rapidly in the community.

“Measles is not a mild illness—it is a serious viral infection that can lead to complications. It spreads through tiny droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes," Dr Flynn said.

"Infants under 12 months, people who are not fully vaccinated, and those with weakened immune systems are at the greatest risk."

👉 SYMPTOMS

Signs of measles usually begin 7–10 days after exposure (but may take up to three weeks) and include:

😷 Fever, tiredness, runny nose, cough and red eyes
😷 A blotchy red rash that starts on the face and spreads across the body

What to do if you have symptoms:
📞 Phone your GP to arrange testing, or call 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for free advice
❌ Do not visit medical centres, hospitals, schools, workplaces, or public spaces without calling ahead—this prevents further spread
👉 If you are unsure of your vaccination status, please contact your GP.
