Carbal Medical Services Providing Excellence in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Healthcare in Toowoomba & Warwick

Carbal Medical Services is a community-responsive Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) with clinics and services across Toowoomba and Warwick. Carbal acknowledges all support provided by the Federal and State government Departments of Health and our many partners. Our service is dedicated to improving the prevention and management of chronic disease through early intervention and improved access to culturally appropriate medical services. Established in 2002, Carbal originated from the efforts of local Aboriginal residents to establish a culturally-appropriate and safe health service in Toowoomba that could comprehensively address the specific health needs of our people. Carbal Medical Services is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Care Organisation (ATSICCHO). Carbal’s management staff are continuously re-designing its processes to ensure that the client’s journey through our organisation meets the medical, health, social and cultural needs of clients. We have a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of individuals who work hard to try and close the gap that exists between the health outcomes in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population and the rest of contemporary Australian society. Carbal Medical Services has an extensive roster of experienced, qualified medical professionals, including:
- General Practitioners;
- Clinic Nurses;
- Aboriginal Health Workers;
- Care Coordinators;
- Allied Health Providers;
- Midwives..and more!

🌿 SUPPORT MATTERS🌿
Late last year, under the shade of a tree, together with mob we took the time and space to give thanks and share a moment of gratitude. We created an image where every leaf tells holds a story, reminding us of the strength we hold when we stand together.
A reminder that your support matter; family, friends, community, and connection.
💛 If you need support, a yarn, or a safe place to care for your health, our doors are always open.
Come in, connect with our team, and let us walk alongside you.

Our Story

Carbal originated from the efforts of Aboriginal people to establish a culturally safe and secure health service in Toowoomba that could comprehensively address health needs. Carbal Medical Centre (Carbal) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Care Organisation (ATSICCHO). Carbal is the tribal totem (carpet snake) for the Traditional Owners of the land on which Darling Downs resides - the Jarrowair and Giabal people. Carbal is continuously reviewing processes and practices to ensure that the client’s journey through our organisation meets the medical, health, social and cultural needs of our clients. We have a dedicated multidisciplinary team of individuals who work hard to try and close the gap that exists between the health outcomes in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population and the rest of contemporary Australian society. Carbal strives to provide ‘Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care in a Caring and culturally aware environment’. Apart from the full service GP clinics in Toowoomba and Warwick, Carbal delivers a large number of health programs on behalf of the State and Commonwealth governments. In line with our accreditation bodies, Carbal strives to provide ‘Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care in a Caring and Confidential Environment’.
