One of the most common presentations of low back pain is related to the sacro-iliac joint or ‘SIJ’. ✨We have two SIJs, where either side of the sacrum (or tailbone) meets the crest of the hip above the buttock. These joints are supported by strong ligaments, and are the main weight-bearing joints of the body. When the SIJ is injured, this can cause significant disability and pain in the pelvis, low back and legs.

🧐A new article published in the Journal of the College of Physicians and Surgeons has found that manual therapy - which includes chiropractic care - is an effective form of treatment for dysfunction of the sacro-iliac joint, and can help decrease pain and levels of disability in these injuries. These findings mirror what we see in practice every day ✨

👩‍🔬A recent study has found a STRONG relationship between Temporomandibular Jaw (jaw joint) Disorders with Major Depressive and Anxiety disorders.

This study found that those who suffered with jaw disorders had a 3x risk of subsequent depression and 7x risk of subsequent anxiety disorders. We know that jaw pain can have a huge impact on lifestyle, physical health and mental health, so our chiropractors have a special interest in this area.

Our chiropractors see many patients with jaw and cranial related issues, and have lots of experience with these problems. 💆🏽‍♀️Treatment of these challenges may include external soft tissue, intra-oral (inside the mouth) stretching and gentle mobilisations, cranial and sutural work and consideration to the neck and other associated areas.

Did you know that neck pain and dizziness are often related? 😯

A recent large scale study showed that 89% of all dizziness is caused by neck dysfunction 😲
Our brains use signals from the ears, eyes and spine - especially the neck - to coordinate our balance and spatial awareness. 👀 When the neck is not working well, these signals can confuse our balance system and create the feeling of dizziness. Chiropractic care is a well studied therapy for improving neck function, and in turn relieving dizziness 💆🏽‍♀️
