There is no shortage of advice out there when it comes to your nervous system, and honestly, a lot of it can feel overwhelming. These are the ones we keep coming back to, the ones that have actually made a difference.
🤍 Breathing ~ Try the physiological sigh. Two quick inhales through the nose followed by one long slow exhale. It’s one of the fastest ways to bring your nervous system back down, almost instantly.
🤍 Heat ~ A warm bath or time in a sauna shifts your bod y into a parasympathetic state, which is basically your body’s rest and recover mode.
🤍 Connection ~ Eye contact and a real hug with someone you feel safe with releases oxytocin and signals safety to your nervous system. Sometimes the fastest way back to yourself is through someone else.
🤍 Grounding ~ The 5-4-3-2-1 technique. Five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell, one you can taste. It sounds simple because it is, and that’s exactly why it works.
