📅 March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. 💛
Endometriosis (endo) is a chronic (long-term) condition where tissue that is similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus on other organs.
With each period, the tissue outside the uterus also bleeds which causes inflammation. From this, scar tissue, cysts and adhesions are formed.
It is a painful and often debilitating chronic inflammatory condition that affects about 1 in 9 girls, women and those assigned female at birth in Australia.
We are working to improve the quality of life for people with endometriosis through our National Action Plan. Funding has been committed to:
✔️ research
✔️ awareness and education
✔️ clinical management and care, including establishing endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics across Australia.
