๐ฆ STAYING COOL DURING A HEATWAVE ๐ฆ
The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that extreme heatwave conditions will continue to impact our region until at least Wednesday and will pose a health risk to members of the community. โ๏ธ
Acting director public health Dr Kate Murton said it was important to be aware of the heat risks and take proper precautions.
"People that have cardiovascular or heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, kidney disease, as well as the elderly, the pregnant, and young children do suffer more from the heat," Dr Murton said.
"The best thing you can do is try and keep cool, avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day, and stay under fans and air conditioning.
"If you do need to be outside, take it easy, stick to the shade and keep cool by spraying yourself with water, fanning yourself and stay really well hydrated by sipping on water or even adding a hydration solution."
Dr Murton also said it was important to recognise the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
"The first signs include feeling nauseated, excessively tired, and hot and lethargic. It can then progress to more serious symptoms feeling very dehydrated, a very dry mouth, and confusion," she said.
"If you or you notice someone else experiencing those symptoms, it's a medical emergency and you should call an ambulance or go straight to the hospital."
