Okay, so this one’s a little left field, even for me, but it’s one of the many random things I’ve picked up lately and run with. So, bear with me… Mouth taping!
After my iron infusion a month ago, I noticed my fatigue levels were still through the roof. I was dragging myself through the day and relying on naps just to cope. When my follow-up blood tests came back perfectly normal, I knew it wasn’t a medical issue, it was a behavioral one. Time to look at my habits and routines, starting with the obvious: sleep.
It’s funny, we learn to sleep as babies, but never really update our approach as adults. Over time, bad habits creep in, external pressures build up, and before we know it, we’re lying down at night expecting our bodies to magically repair and reset… when most of us aren’t getting truly restorative rest at all.
Enter the Instagram algorithm and its relentless mouth taping reels. I figured, why not? A simple strip of micropore tape across the mouth and i jumped into the deep end.
After just a few nights, I noticed a huge difference. I was sleeping so much deeper. Normally, I’m a side-to-side sleeper who half-wakes to roll over or readjust my pillow, but that stopped. I was out cold! After a week or two, I was waking up feeling genuinely rested, with solid, uninterrupted sleep.
And here’s the wild part, I’ve never been a morning person. Getting up before 7:30 used to feel impossible. But now? I wake to my 5:55 a.m. alarm energized, clear-headed, and ready to take on the day — no naps needed. My Garmin data even shows better deep sleep and recovery scores.
The science behind it makes sense:
Nasal breathing filters, warms, and humidifies the air before it reaches your lungs.
It improves oxygen efficiency and boosts nitric oxide production, which helps regulate blood flow and cellular energy.
It also helps down-regulate the nervous system, promoting calm and making it easier to fall — and stay — asleep.
Mouth taping can even reduce snoring, dry mouth, and overnight stress responses, all of which improve overall sleep hygiene and recovery.
