Oh hiiiiii, Matt!

Matt has been part of the Synergy family since the very beginning - over 14 years working alongside Dale and seeing the clinic grow from its early days at the Mater Cardiac Rehab facility. Townsville born and bred, he’s truly part of the furniture around here!

When Matt reflects on the biggest change since he started, it’s the reach and impact we now have. What began as a small team of three EPs and a receptionist in a single location has grown into 15 staff across four allied health disciplines, delivering services in our private clinic, medical centres, aged care homes, and schools - now in 10 towns! At the same time, the exercise physiology profession has grown from sitting awkwardly between physios and personal trainers to becoming a cornerstone of healthcare, giving EPs more opportunities than ever to make a real difference.

What Matt loves most? The team. “We’ve built a group with incredible depth, positivity, and cohesion. I love being able to lean on each other’s strengths, celebrate wins together, and work towards shared goals. Leading a team like this doesn’t just make the work enjoyable - it makes it meaningful.”

We’re so lucky to have him steering the ship - a boss, a mentor, and a true Synergy legend!

Hydrotherapy is on tomorrow, and we’d love to see you there.

If you’ve been meaning to get moving again, want something that’s easy on your joints, or need a bit of extra support with pain, mobility or recovery - this is a great place to start.

Our group class runs every Thursday at 11:00am at Kokoda Pool in Mundingburra, led by our Exercise Physiologist, Zeke. It’s a 40-minute session in warm water, designed to help you move better, feel stronger and build confidence.

If you’re a Synergy member, the class is included - just cover your pool entry.
DVA and NDIS options are available too - we’re happy to chat through what’s right for you.

Spots are limited each week, so bookings are essential.

This is the hardest post I've had to write - Richard, our brilliant Exercise Physiologist, is moving on to a new role in research. Perfect for his humongous brain, but a sad day for us!

Richard has made such a difference to everyone he’s worked with and his energy, knowledge, and passion will be missed around the gym.

His last day is this Thursday, 30th October.

HIIIIIII, ZEKE.

If you’ve been in and around our clinic, you’ve probably met Zeke! He’s one of our Exercise Physiologists here at Synergy Health Centre.

Zeke has 5 years of experience working with clients of all abilities and conditions. He graduated from JCU and is actually a Kennedy local (bonus points if you can show us where that is on a map 👀).

You’ll find him on the gym floor on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, taking one-on-one appointments and running group classes. You'll also find him at Kokoda pool on Thursdays teaching his popular hydrotherapy class. It’s the perfect way to keep moving (and stay cool) during our impending Townsville summer.

Zeke’s favourite part of his job? Having the knowledge and know-how to keep fit and healthy for himself - and then using that to help others. He loves being able to empathise with clients and understands how good it feels when things finally start to click.

When it comes to helping someone who hates exercise, Zeke takes the time to chat about what they enjoy outside of the gym, what motivates them, and what’s worked (or hasn’t) before. From there, it’s all about trying new things until they find something that actually feels good - because movement shouldn’t be a chore.

We’re so stoked to have Zeke as part of our team - make sure to say hey next time you see him around the clinic.

How lucky are we to visit some of the most beautiful places in Queensland through our outreach work.

This week we travelled to Palm Island - a community with such strength, connection, and heart. We feel really grateful to be able to support locals with our Dietitian, Diabetes Education, and Exercise Physiology services.

It’s visits like these that remind us why we love what we do.

Carbohydrates often get a bad reputation, but here’s the truth: they’re one of the three essential macronutrients (alongside protein and fat) that your body needs every single day.

Why?
They’re your body’s primary energy source - especially for the brain and nervous system.
They provide dietary fibre, which supports gut health, cholesterol management, and blood sugar control.
They’re often rich in vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients when consumed as wholegrains, legumes, fruit, and vegetables.

What makes the difference is quality and quantity. Refined carbs (think sugary drinks, white bread, pastries) can spike blood sugar and provide little nutritional value. But complex carbohydrates (like oats, grainy bread, legumes, and fruit) digest more slowly, keeping you fuller for longer and supporting stable energy levels.
