🤝Last week Meg attended the Townsville Disability Network Expo held at Willows Shopping Centre. It was a wonderful turn out with 70+ exhibitors and lots of opportunity for the community to connect and find out information!

It was a good opportunity for us to chat to the other providers and see how we can work together. Thanks to TDN for organising this great event and we look forward to next year. 🌟

📝The NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme is providing a free online Positive Behaviour Support Training Package. The SILS team have signed up to improve their skills. 👍

The training package includes three short courses. Learn about positive behaviour support, human rights and trauma informed support. 📅Few weeks ago Ginnie attended a networking event by Prospect Hill Supported Independent Living for professionals in the disability sector.

Held at the Riverside Gardens Community Center the coffee morning provided an opportunity to meet established and new people in the sector.☕

Meg and Ginnie from SILS recently attended a Positive Behaviour Support Insights & Resilience workshop on supporting clients when implementing a Positive Behaviour Support Plan. 🌟

Held at the Stuart Business Centre in the CBD and presented by Tiarah Hunkin from Ability Action Australia the workshop provided valuable insights into best practices as well as the process involved in applying for a new Positive Behaviour Plan.

Continuous learning helps us strengthen our knowledge and provide the highest quality care and support to our clients. 👍

📅Reminder! NDIS workers in risk-assessed roles must renew their NDIS Worker Screening Check every 5 years. As the NDIS Worker Screening Check was first introduced on 1 February 2021, some workers’ checks will start to expire from 1 February 2026.

SILS ensures all our workers are up to date on their checks. To check the current status of your workers on the the NDIS worker screening database (NWSD) 👍https://www.ndiscommission.gov.au/workforce/worker-screening

📅Last month we attended the Townsville Disability Network (TDN) Quarterly Meeting. Meg Watts from SILS connected with Patrick Yeung (Specialist Support Coordinator) from CueCare Australia and heard from speakers about recent NDIS updates.

☑️Toni McInnes from NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme (on screen spoke) about Special Disability Accommodation (SDA) homes.
☑️The Townsville City Council spoke about creating accessible communities.
☑️ Rights In Action shared important insights into advocacy

🤝Last month we attended a Ready-Set-Connect networking event by One Community in Townsville for NDIS. It was great for us connect with other providers and people in the industry around Townsville 🌴

The event featured a wide range of different service providers and provided a platform for them to connect with Participants, People with a disability, Support Coordinators, Parents/ Careers, Teachers and LACs.
