Menopause, hormones & pain-whatâs the link?
If youâve noticed more aches, injuries, or slower recovery during perimenopause or menopause, itâs not just âgetting olderâ.
As estrogen levels fluctuate and decline, it can affect:
⢠Tendon and ligament health â reduced collagen support meaning your body is more presdisposed to tendinopathies and ligamental injuries
⢠Muscle recovery â longer soreness, more fatigue
⢠Joint lubrication â increased stiffness and pain
⢠Pain sensitivity â the nervous system can become more reactive
This is why some women experience new or recurring injuries, tendon pain, or joint discomfort during this stage of life-even with the same training load.
đĄFor some women, seeing a womenâs healthâfocused GP to discuss hormonal changes, and whether estrogen therapy may be appropriate-can make a meaningful difference to pain, recovery, and overall musculoskeletal health. Itâs not for everyone, but itâs a conversation worth having.
đŞ The good news?
With the right strength training, load management, recovery strategies and medical support when indicated, you can stay strong, active, and confident in your body through menopause and beyond.
Stay tuned as we are planning a new group class focused on this population!
