Why We Don’t Use Gums or Thickeners in Good WPI
Many protein powders use vegetable gums and starch-based thickeners to make their texture creamier or prevent clumping. While these ingredients help with mouthfeel they’re not necessary — and they can cause digestive issues for some people.
Common gums and thickeners include:
Xanthan gum, guar gum, acacia gum, and locust bean gum - all highly processed plant or bacterial fibres that can cause bloating or discomfort in sensitive individuals.
Carrageenan, cellulose gum, and gellan gum - often used in “milkshake-style” or “ready-to-drink” proteins to create a thicker consistency.
At The Good Protein Co, we believe in keeping things simple. Our New Zealand Grass Fed 'Good WPI' is naturally smooth, clean, and tastes just fine without any gums. It's just high-quality, minimally processed ingredients that support digestion and performance the natural way.
