Christmas holidays have always been my favourite - the togetherness, generosity, celebrations, yummy food and all the little moments.

I’ve never loved the idea that that feeling only gets a few weeks a year, so for a long time now I’ve tried to carry it into everyday life through “little Christmases”.

Sometimes it’s simple; a coffee at the café, a swim in the ocean after work, a sneaky sweet treat. Other times it’s a note for a team member or a shared lunch surprise.

Nothing over the top. Just small things that bring the same feeling into the day - because work, life and joy don’t have to be separate 🥂

Some of the most impactful learning I’ve done as a speechie hasn’t been clinical at all.
It’s been focusing on personal skills around things like perspective, purpose, habits, values, organisation (the list goes on!) and how to actually build a fulfilling career.

These are the kinds of books that help you think more clearly, work with intention, lead yourself or others better, and show up as a more grounded human - not just a better clinician.

If you’re looking for ideas for your 2026 reading list, this is a good place to start 📖🤓

Burnout comes up a lot this time of year 😵‍💫

It’s not “being tired.” It’s what happens when your internal smoke alarm has been going off for months and you’ve been trying to work around it.

Burnout = long-term stress with no action.
Your body isn’t broken - it’s overwhelmed and out of capacity.

HOWEVER, Stress itself isn’t the enemy. Healthy stress gives you energy, focus and momentum. Burnout happens when you ignore the warning signals.

So, how do we shift out of it?
✨ Tell yourself the truth
Name what’s actually going on. Awareness brings your system out of shutdown.
✨ Take one grounded action
A boundary. A conversation. A break. A realistic plan.
Action is what calms the alarm.
✨ Regulate
Movement, breath, sunlight, sleep, co-regulation - this brings you back into the ‘green zone’.
✨ Rebuild capacity slowly
You don’t just bounce back from burnout.

There are so many amazing resources out there on burnout. DM for more!

Last week’s Central Coast SPA end of year celebration was such a nice way to wrap up the year. Yummy food, great chats, and a table full of amazing local speechies.

Shout out to .speechie for hosting 👏🏻 Looking forward to more catch-ups in 2026 with Shannon taking over the reigns!

It’s now December! The month where routines get messy, emotions get big and calendars get full 😅 For our little kiddies, this time of year is full of easy opportunities for natural language.

🎄 Naming what you see - “tree”, “presents”
✨ Describing colours + lights - “shiny”, “red”, “bright”
🎁 Using simple phrases like “open box,” “more please,” “help me”
🌟 Practising turn-taking with decorations - “my turn”
😁 Talking about feelings - excited, tired, overwhelmed, happy

And the best part is there is no pressure and no worksheets. DM me for more simple ways to incorporate language over Chrissy ❤️

Life lately has been a mix of clinic days, beach swims, dog park chaos, building site checks, and a very full wedding season.
It made me realise this space should feel like all of that - the real, human side of being a speechie. The parts of life that make us better clinicians, stronger leaders… and honestly, happier humans.
So over the next few weeks, expect a more coastal-lifestyle, warm, real version of this page. Still full of speech pathology goodness, just with more life layered in.
If you’re here for speechie insight, parenting support, career inspo, or simply some coastal energy… you’re in the right place 🤎

📚🎨 What a day at Paint Hawkesbury REaD!

It was such a joy to join forces with Bec and Michael from Speak About last month - chatting with local families and community services about all things language, play and early literacy.

For those who haven’t heard, Paint Hawkesbury REaD is part of the national Paint the Town REaD initiative, bringing communities together to inspire families to read, sing, rhyme, talk and play with their children right from birth.

Big thanks to the incredible organisers and everyone who came by to say hello. We loved being part of this amazing community event!

✨We know you’re more than ‘just a clinician’✨

➡️ You’ve been juggling clients, mentoring junior team members, and drowning in admin tasks - with little support.
➡️ You’re trying to drive positive change… but stuck in systems that resist it.

🚨It doesn’t have to be this way.

At Speak About, leadership feels different! We’ve designed this role with YOU in mind - the leader you are, and the leader you’re becoming.

We’re excited to share that we are hiring a Head of Clinical Operations & Senior Speech Pathologist in one dynamic hybrid role.

📍 Based in Richmond and supporting teams across Richmond and Tuggerah.
