An amazing day at St Mary Mackillop College at our intergenerational program with senior students.

The senior students supported our members to bake biscuits and they rolled out fondant and iced them together, while laughing and sharing stories 🧁

We love our relationships with senior students…..

The benefits of these relationships are;

- Reduction of loneliness and social isolation
- Builds friendships and social connections
- Reduces ageism
- Boosts self esteem from both cohorts
- Enhances learning and skill sharing
- Increases understanding between generations

This is our forth year the MacKillop students and we plan on doing this for many more years to come 🌺

On Saturday attended the Bonython Primary School - ACT market stall.

We sold CHA cupcakes and played mini golf game with the students and their families.

The students loved seeing our members at their school, supporting their market.

Fun was had by all, and we would not miss it for the world. 🌍

It’s our third year and we plan on always being there 🧁

Our second session of reading in nature for this semester with Bonython Primary School - ACT

The rainy weather meant we diverted inside to ☔️

So what does this program support?

Glad you asked, It……

- Increases confidence in students and members
- Improves confidence in reading
- Encourages children to have a love of literature
- Provides a non biased ear for children to practice and improve
- Promotes a sense of self esteem for all involved
- Connects different generations and builds friendships

Both programs now have waiting list for students to attend

In a busy world, the members offer our youth, the gift of time and attention ⏰

This is an 8 week program, that has so many amazing benifits.

We can’t wait to share more pics each week.

Contact us on 1800 273 006 if you want to know more and attend any of our amazing programs NDIS or Private/HCP/SAH funded.

Sometimes we have “doing days”

When I consult in nursing, homes, I see everyone being “served” all day, with little or nothing to do.

This makes people bored, lethargic, anxious, display unmet needs, isolated and they would lose their physical strength.

People living with dementia are capable of the same the you and I are.

Contributing to daily life;

- Builds self esteem
- Increases confidence
- Gives purpose and meaning
- Promotes personhood
- Increases dopamine (happy hormone)
- Reduces cortisol (stress hormone)
- Sense of pride and achievement
- Keep muscle memory
- Improves fitness and much much more

So next time you go to do something for someone with Dementia or an older person because it’s quicker, stop - and take the time to support them to do it for themselves

The benefits are ENDLESS 🧼

Come to Canberra and soon to be Westmead Sydney and we will put you to work too 😉

OMA program (Opening Minds through Art) inteview with Michael and Mason 🎙️ Bonython Primary School - ACT

“I’ve learned that with some people it’s best not to rush” - Mason Yr 6

“I’ve learned I can talk to people even if there is a a language barrier” - Michael Yr 6

This is the power of Intergenerations programs and community building.

- A future where everyone is included and celebrated
- A reductions in “behaviours” aka unmet needs in PLWD
- A reductions in biased beliefs
whether that be Agesim, Stigmatism or Rascism
- Building resilient and stronger community’s for all
- Creating confidence in our youth
- Reducing social isolation
- Inspiring the leaders of the future

Club Kalina is all of our happy places!

Every town and city in Australia should have a space like this where people can connect - imagine what that does long term for local communities?

Anyone wants to study this program or provide us a grant in 2026 hint hint- please reach out!

Last Friday was our second session of “Creative Connections” as part of opening minds through art (OMA).

Read about OMA here ⬇️⬇️⬇️

This is part of an 8 week program, connecting students and people with Dementia through art, we already know will be repeating this year.

Bonython Primary School - ACT love making abstract art with the members at Club Kalina, this week the medium was collage with tissue paper.

- Mason (Yr 6) says he has learned not to rush to people with dementia.
-Stef who lives with Parkinson’s thought he would never be able to do art again
- Craig’s wife is thrilled he is connecting with children through art
- Gaye who is mostly unable to communicate in words, used a paintbrush and was supported by a student to participate. 🥹

Check out the amazing art in the second pic. Each art piece will be named and displayed at Kalina at the end of semester in an art gallery 🖼️

This makes all our hearts happy- more to come ❤️

If you, or someone you know would like to join please contact us on 1800 273 006 or DM us 🎯

Prasanna, Serin, Rachu and Komaljeet. 💐

To be able to embrace cultural diversity in our workplace and share these meaningful moments, is what makes Community Home Australia so special.

Each culture had a different variation and the members and team enjoyed listening, and seeing their faces light up they spoke from the heart.

Why we started this.....

The Community Cafe was started as a drive for change.

Getting a diagnosis of dementia can be lonely, and your community can get smaller and smaller as it progresses.

We knew these cafes were making a great impact and improving the lives of people with dementia and their loved ones nationally and around the world. We also established that they were not currently being offered in a regular location the ACT.

We hope, that by running these cafes in a permanent space - we can create a peer support network and community that can be there for each other from pre and post diagnosis and aim to reduce the stigma of living with dementia.
