Sprint training is crucial in protecting players from hamstring injuries. A recent study found that players who performed more high-speed sprinting during the final four weeks of preseason had a lower risk of hamstring injuries.
A well-structured preseason with adequate sprint exposure, load monitoring, and individualised training may help reduce hamstring injury risk throughout the season.
