"Hi, Iโm Dr Karlye a clinical psychologist and neuroscientist, and today, for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, I want to remind every girl watching of something powerful.
Thereโs no denying it, as females were the minority a lot of the time in Science - but despite that, weโve driven some of the biggest breakthroughs in history.
A woman was the first to reveal the structure of DNA.
A woman coinvented the technology behind WiโFi.
A woman developed the malaria treatment thatโs saved millions of lives.
Women have launched satellites, built programming languages, mapped the universe, and transformed medicine - often while being told they didnโt belong.
So if youโre thinking about science, start by following what fascinates you. And if you donโt see a woman in the room yet, thatโs ok. My experience is that the science community embraces ideas on their merit, and your ideas could be the next breakthrough the world is waiting for.
So what are you waiting for?"
