Meet Loren Mackay

Loren Mackay is a valued member of the GLAICA team, bringing more than 30 years of customer service and administrative expertise to her role. Whether she’s welcoming visitors with her trademark warmth at reception or managing a wide range of administrative duties—including accounts payable and, at times, rostering—Loren plays an essential part in keeping both facilities running smoothly and efficiently.

Beyond her professional dedication, Loren treasures time with her husband, their two beautiful daughters, and their much‑loved fur babies, Bandit and Colin, who happily assume the role of household royalty.

A keen traveller at heart, Loren finds joy in discovering new places, immersing herself in different cultures, and—most importantly—sampling the world’s flavours. A passionate foodie, she’s always on the hunt for her next culinary adventure. One thing is certain: mild is never on the menu. The hotter the dish, the happier she is.

Loren’s warmth, reliability, and love of life make her an integral part of GLAICA—and someone we are grateful to have on our team.

Thank you for alerting us to our unwanted guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to let us know about the snake you encountered during your visit to Glaica House on Australia Day. We appreciate you promptly advising staff and for safely shooing it away into the nearby bushes.

Please be assured that this matter has been referred to our maintenance team, who are currently monitoring the area and taking appropriate steps to reduce the risk of further sightings.

With the warmer weather, snakes can be more active, and we would like to take this opportunity to remind all visitors, residents, and staff that snakes may be present in the area. For everyone’s safety, snakes should never be approached or handled.

If a snake is sighted on site, please contact management immediately. If you encounter a snake while out in the community or at your own home, we recommend contacting WIRES Rescue on 1300 094 737.

WIRES advises:

If you find a snake in your home, move all people, children, and pets into other rooms and keep them away until the situation is resolved.

If it is safe to do so, isolate the snake by closing the door to the room and placing towels along the bottom of the door.

Contact WIRES Rescue on 1300 094 737 or submit a rescue request via their online form.

Do not approach the snake or attempt to contain it yourself.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention and for helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone at Glaica House.

Kind regards,

Claire Brennan
On behalf of Glaica House Management

Heart to Heart Australia with founder Donna Rankin - Featured in the Forster Fortnightly 7th January 2026 on page 12

GLAICA Ltd is proud to be involved with Heart to Heart Australia, and we are truly blessed to have Donna Rankin managing this wonderful program for our residents several times each year.

Our residents greatly enjoy coming together each week to learn and practise still-life painting in a relaxed and supportive environment. These sessions run for approximately two to three hours and provide far more than an opportunity to paint. They are a time to connect, to share laughter, and to experience a genuine sense of belonging.

The program focuses not only on developing artistic skills, but also on fostering meaningful connections with one another. Residents take great pride in their achievements, enjoying their completed artworks over a cup of tea and some biscuits, while creating special and lasting memories together.

GLAICA Ltd is committed to continuing our valued partnership with Heart to Heart Australia and cherishes the close bond we share with its founder, Donna Rankin. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the joy, creativity, and warmth you bring to our residents and for the truly wonderful experiences you provide.

GLAICA Ltd Spreads Christmas Cheer Through Community Outreach
- Featured in the Forster Fortnightly on page 12

This past Christmas season, GLAICA Ltd was proud to coordinate a heartfelt Christmas Outreach initiative in partnership with the Forster Tuncurry Uniting Church and Home Base, coming together to support members of our local community who are less fortunate during the festive period.

The initiative was shared with GLAICA Ltd staff, families, village residents, and volunteers through a community letter, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. The generosity, kindness, and willingness to help shown by so many was truly heartening and a strong reflection of the compassion that exists within our community. Thanks to its success, this Christmas Outreach program will now become an annual initiative.

The day itself was a wonderful example of what can be achieved when organisations work collaboratively with a shared purpose. Beyond the practical support provided, the outreach created a sense of connection, dignity, and care for those who needed it most during a time of year that can be particularly challenging.

Each of these individuals, along with many others working quietly behind the scenes, played a vital role in the success of the day. GLAICA Ltd is incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by such dedicated and community-minded people who consistently give their time, energy, and care to support others.

Building on this momentum, GLAICA Ltd is excited to continue working alongside the Forster Tuncurry Uniting Church and Home Base on additional outreach programs throughout the year. These future initiatives will further strengthen community connections and provide ongoing support where it is most needed. More details will be shared once plans are finalised.

This Christmas Outreach initiative is a powerful reminder of the strength, generosity, and compassion within the Forster–Tuncurry community. It is a testament to what can be achieved when organisations and individuals come together with a shared commitment to making a positive difference.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and goodwill to make this program such a success. We look forward to continuing this meaningful initiative again this year. God bless.

As we reflect on the year that has been, 2025 has been a wonderful yet challenging year for GLAICA Ltd. Like many organisations, we have faced a number of pressures and complexities; however, having the right people working within our organisation has made all the difference. The dedication, compassion, and resilience of our team continue to be the foundation of everything we do and make even the toughest times worthwhile.

This year also marked an important milestone for GLAICA Ltd with the appointment of Darran Paul as our Chief Executive Officer in October. Darran brings with him over 20 years of experience in Aged Care Management, and in a short time we are already seeing positive and meaningful changes across the organisation. His leadership and vision have been warmly welcomed, and we are all looking forward with optimism to what 2026 will bring.

Community connection has remained a strong focus for GLAICA Ltd. This Christmas, we were proud to be involved in the Outreach Program alongside Forster Tuncurry Uniting Church and Home Base, helping to spread joy, care, and support to those experiencing homelessness and hardship within our local community. The program was a tremendous success, so much so that it will now become an annual initiative, with plans also in place to participate in a winter outreach program next year.

We also enjoyed celebrating the festive season with our residents, families, and community through our Christmas carols at Pacific Cape Lodge and GLAICA House, in partnership with the wonderful Great Lakes Town Band. The evenings were filled with singing, laughter, and festive spirit as Forster and Tuncurry treated us to beautifully cool weather—creating memorable moments for everyone involved.

A special thank you must be extended to the GLAICA Ltd Board, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to support and guide the organisation. Their commitment makes so much of what we achieve possible. Most importantly, we thank our incredible staff—without their hard work, care, and dedication, none of this would work.

From everyone at GLAICA Ltd, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you all in 2026 and continuing to support and assist our residents, families, and community.

Merry Christmas from all of us at GLAICA Ltd. 🎄

On Wednesday, August 13th, we proudly hosted our Heart To Heart exhibition at Pacific Cape Lodge Forster, celebrating the inspiring journey of connection and creativity. Donna Rankin, the visionary founder of this remarkable program, has truly created a space that unites us all through the transformative power of art.

Each week, our residents eagerly gathered, feeling safe, loved, and inspired to share their stories while exploring their artistic talents. The sessions fostered not only creativity but also a deep sense of community, warmth, and mutual support—accompanied by coffee and cake that made each gathering even more special.

Heart To Heart has made a meaningful difference, fostering positive change and strengthening the bonds within our community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Donna for guiding us through this beautiful journey. I am pleased to share that we will be scheduling this enriching program again soon, and we look forward to continuing these wonderful moments together.

Thank you to everyone involved!
