InterACTive Forum is running a Social Skills & Social Emotional Concepts Groups for children aged 7 - 12 years who have difficulties understanding, communicating and/or developing relationships with their peers. This group would benefit children displaying difficulties with social anxiety, shyness, limited peer friendships, social isolation/withdrawal and/or non-participation in social or class activities.
Through a fun, supportive, non-threatening group environment, children will have the opportunity to engage and learn social skills using drama, movement, dance, mime, improvisation and script writing.
The Group aims to encourage social and emotional learning skills, assist children to get in touch with and share social difficulties, improve communication, build relationships and explore and experience new feelings, dimensions and ideas in a group setting.
The InterACTive Forum group can be a way for children who experience social difficulties to learn and practice social skills for everyday relationships.
The Group aims to teach social emotional skills required for everyday relationships including: Basics of Social Skills; Joint/Focus Attention; Recognition of Social Cues; Emotional regulation and frustration tolerance; Perspective Taking; Social Problem solving and Assertive Skills Training; Empathy Skills and Relaxation and Mindfulness Training.
Each family will have an intake assessment before the program starts to assess suitability and discuss learning goals. Each group will be tailored toward the specific needs of the participants.
Dates: The next 6-week program will commence on Saturday 30th July 2022 and will run weekly until Saturday 3rd September 2022. The 7-9-year-old group will be held from 10:30am-12noon and the 10-12-year-old group will be held from 1pm-2:30pm.
Location: Tweed Heads Holistic Health, 40 Machinery Drive, Tweed Heads South.
Cost: $320 for the six-week program. Upfront payment is required.

The Group will be facilitated by registered Child Psychologist, Renae Paul and Adrienne Megan Lester, Applied Theatre practitioner.
Renae Paul is a registered psychologist who is experienced in working with children, adolescents and families. Renae has a strong interest in child development and the effects of trauma and/or family problems on children’s self-confidence and interpersonal skills and helping children move through these difficulties.
Adrienne Megan Lester has been working with drama, movement, dance, mime, improvisation and script writing for over 25 years. With extensive experience in working with young people, she is passionate about facilitating social connection and the human right to feel safe, seen, heard, loved and valued - to feel a sense of belonging.
