10/08/2023

In today's world, where health and safety are paramount, personal protective equipment (PPE) plays a crucial role in safeguarding individuals from various hazards. Whether it's in healthcare settings, industrial workplaces, or everyday life, PPE gear offers a wide range of benefits that contribute to the well-being and protection of individuals. In this blog, we will explore the significant advantages of using PPE gear, and highlight key products you can use to assist in the protection of yourself and others.

Gloves

Gloves provide a vital barrier against contamination, preventing direct contact with hazardous materials such as chemicals, bodily fluids, or infectious agents. By minimising contact, they effectively reduce the risk of contamination and transmission of diseases. Wearing gloves also safeguards the skin from irritants, allergens, or abrasive substances, preventing occupational dermatitis, chemical burns, or other skin-related conditions. Products such as the Sterile Aegis Nitrile Gloves are trusted within healthcare services, as they’re able to withstand harsh, wet and dry operating environments for maximum protection. In healthcare and food handling industries, gloves play a crucial role in maintaining strict hygiene standards, reducing the spread of pathogens and cross-contamination. Our range of gloves are best suited for an array of environments with high-quality protection.

Gowns and Aprons

Gowns and aprons provide comprehensive body protection, acting as a physical barrier against exposure to chemicals, bodily fluids, or infectious agents. By preventing direct contact, they effectively reduce the risk of contamination and potential infections. The Compro Surgical Gown is a prime example of this, providing a fluid resistant barrier while still being breathable and comfortable. Aprons like the Heavy Duty PVC Apron offer excellent splash and spill protection, making them essential in laboratory, medical, or industrial settings. Choosing to wear one of our gowns or aprons ensures compliance with safety protocols and industry-specific regulations, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Face Masks

Masks offer essential respiratory protection, serving as a physical barrier that filters out larger respiratory droplets. Masks like the Bastion P2 Respirator effectively protect the wearer from inhaling infectious particles, allergens, or harmful substances present in the air. During surgical procedures, 3-Ply Surgical Face Masks are used to help maintain a sterile environment, minimising the introduction of bacteria and other contaminants that could lead to postoperative infections. The masks in stock at Solutions Medical are essential for respiratory and infectious particle protection.

Eye Protection

Eye protection, such as safety goggles or protective eyewear, play a critical role. Safety Glasses shield the eyes from potential hazards, including flying debris, chemicals, or intense light, preventing eye injuries, irritation, and long-term damage. Other high-quality glasses like the Vision Safety Glasses are designed for specific environments, enhancing visibility, reducing glare, and improving overall visual clarity and accuracy, which is particularly important in precision tasks.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) gear is an indispensable component of safety measures in various industries and everyday life. By embracing PPE gear, individuals and organisations prioritise their well-being, comply with regulations, and contribute to a safer and healthier environment. Remember, when it comes to personal safety, prevention is always better than cure, and PPE gear serves as a powerful preventative tool in safeguarding lives. View our range of high-quality PPE gear and prioritise the safety of yourself and others.

21/02/2023

They may be the nemesis of children everywhere, as well as many adults, but syringes (and the needles attached to them) really are incredibly useful. Whether you’re relieving body aches with acupuncture, drawing blood for vital tests, or administering important injections, the two combine to make an extremely useful medical device. Take a look and you’ll see.

The Luer Slip Tip vs. The Luer Lock Tip
The first thing we should cover is the difference between the Luer Slip Tip and the Luer Lock Tip. Both describe the method for attaching a hypodermic needle to the plastic syringe body, the all-important step that gives you a ready-to-use syringe.

In the case of the Luer Slip, the operator must push the needle onto the tip of the syringe to create a secure connection between the two. In the case of the Luer Lock, the end of the syringe is threaded, and requires the needle to be screwed securely onto the tip.

In either case, the end result is the tight seal you need in order to safely operate the syringe. There are a few other things a good quality syringe needs, and to meet those requirements we recommend the Terumo BD range of syringes.

A leading designer and manufacturer of syringes and hypodermic needles, all of their products come with a list of world class features. All of them feature ultra clear barrels, come packaged in tamper evident peel packs, have bold & precise scale markings, and are non-toxic and 100% latex free.

The Eccentric Tip
There’s another type of syringe tip, distinct from the Luer varieties, and that’s the Eccentric Tip. This tip attaches to syringes the same way as the Luer Slip, but the important detail here is where that tip is located.

Most syringes have the nozzle tip centred in the middle of the barrel, the Eccentric Tip is so named because the tip is located as close to one wall of the barrel as possible. This is done to allow administering of needles that are almost parallel with the injection area.

Once again we recommend the Terumo BD range for all of the important features we’ve mentioned before.

Hypodermic Needles
A syringe is pretty limited in its usefulness without a needle attached, so let’s go over those. Hypodermic needles are the hollow steel tubes that allow a syringe to pierce the skin and do its job, without them a syringe is of extremely limited usefulness.

We’d recommend checking out the Terumo hypodermic needles range. With ultra thin walls, special silicone lubricant, and triple faceting, they greatly increase patient comfort and greatly reduce the difficulty of the operator’s job.

Hwato Acupuncture Needles
If you’re in the market for another kind of needle, you should check out the Hwato Acupuncture range.

All of them are single-use stainless steel, manufactured to traditional Chinese standards, and guaranteed to be fully sterile. They are suitable for traditional acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and moxibustion.

These acupuncture needles are guided, meaning the acupuncture needle comes with a clear plastic guide tube. This makes it easier to line up longer or thinner needles.

Whatever you’re looking for, we’ve got the range to suit your needs. Check out our range of syringes, hypodermic needles, and our acupuncture needles and you’ll be sure to find what you’re looking for.

22/12/2022

There’s nothing that says “medical professional” quite as clearly as a stethoscope hanging around your neck. Everyone loves a stethoscope, in fact research shows that of all the medical instruments out there, having a stethoscope on you is the fastest way to appear more trustworthy to patients.

Turns out there’s a reason for that, they’re dead useful!

The definitive auscultation tool, the stethoscope has been helping us diagnose medical conditions for hundreds of years, and it’s still just as useful today as when it was first invented.

Of course things have advanced considerably in that time, and there’s now a wide variety of advanced stethoscopes available to suit a myriad of different needs and professions.

So let’s have a look at some of the different kinds of stethoscopes available to the modern medical practitioner.

The Standard in Stethoscopes
The most widely used of all stethoscopes, and the one everyone immediately pictures when they think of them, is the classic dual head stethoscope.

From the newest of students to the most experienced of doctors, everyone has used one of these. An excellent general purpose option, these simple, dependable instruments won’t let you down. As a bonus, you even get to pick your favourite colour.

Child Friendly Options
Lots of children don’t like going to the doctor, and they especially don’t like the hospital, so keeping them calm long enough to diagnose and treat them can be a challenge.

Giving them something to focus on is an excellent way to get around this problem, and once again the stethoscope comes to the rescue. With a selection of friendly animal faces to choose from, they’re a great way to ensure you always have a distraction on hand.

Electronic Stethoscopes
Sometimes a mechanical stethoscope isn’t strong enough, and when that happens the electronic stethoscope is the solution. Able to amplify sounds by as much as 24 times their normal volume, no condition is too quiet to be picked up by this precision instrument.

For Babies
A specialist job requires a specialist instrument, which is what the pinard horn is. This foetal stethoscope is designed for easy listening to the heartbeats of unborn babies, very useful for those that need it.

The All-in-One
If you’re after a single stethoscope that can do it all, this is what you’re looking for. The Sprague Rappaport offers 5 interchangeable chest pieces: large and small diaphragms, and adult, child, and infant sized bells.

Each chest piece is suited to detecting sounds in a specific range, allowing it to do any job required.

No matter what type of stethoscope you’re looking for, we’ve got you covered. Check out our extensive range today!

Ultrasound Gel

When performing an ultrasound, the gel used during this process is a key component of a successful, safe, and professional service.

Ultrasound gel provides a certain amount of comfort, lubrication and soluble boundary for accurate imaging.

In our latest blog, we go into why you should be using gel for your ultrasounds, and how it is imperative for your work.

What is the Purpose of Ultrasound Gel?

So, why use gel for ultrasounds?

As healthcare professionals use a probe or ultrasound machine during the ultrasonic procedure, it then creates waves that move across the skin's surface. These waves are subsequently reflected off the tissue's surface and picked up by the probe, which produces an ultrasonic image.

There will be a stronger reflection and echo if there is a significant variation in the acoustic properties of the skin and tissues. The ultrasound screen then shows a white image if this happens.

Every tissue has its own unique acoustic characteristics and resistance. 99.9% of the ultrasound waves would be reflected by an air boundary if you were to take an ultrasound without gel, hence why it is important to be using gel in these procedures.

The skin and probe would only be separated by air, making it impossible to image properly. Ultrasound gel can be used to create a necessary water-soluble barrier so the waves can be transmitted without reflection, to allow for crucial imaging.

The gel also serves as lubrication, allowing the probe to move smoothly when an ultrasonic scan is being done. If the gel is not applied, it could be painful and rigid.

Is It Safe?

Not only can ultrasound gel be applied directly to the skin, but it can also be used as lubricant when a probe is inserted into the re**us during a gynecologic examination of a woman who has never had s*x, as well as for men's prostate exams.

The gel's components are safe, and it is simple to remove with water or tissue paper.

Breathe Easier With AirPhysio

The ability to breathe easily is something many of us take for granted, but for those suffering from chronic breathing issues it’s a daily struggle.

Conditions like Asthma, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Bronchiectasis, and Cystic Fibrosis cause problems in the lungs and airways that make breathing difficult. This in turn leads to discomfort, poor fitness, and an overall loss in quality of life.

If you or a loved one is looking for respite from these or similar conditions, then the AirPhysio could be the solution you’ve been looking for.

The AirPhysio uses OPEP (Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure) to enhance the natural cleaning processes that the body is already employing. OPEP opens up airways and expands lung capacity, allowing buildups of mucus to be cleared away more effectively. These mucus build ups are the cause of many breathing difficulties, so eliminating them allows AirPhysio users to quite literally breathe easier.

Since this natural process simply enhances what the body is already doing, it requires no medications, steroids, or paraffin. No one has reported any side effects when using the AirPhysio.

It is important to note that the AirPhysio cannot cure lung conditions, but it can help to manage and slow down the progression of chronic conditions.

AirPhysio has several different versions engineered to suit people of different ages and with different severities of conditions.

AirPhysio Green - Normal Lung Capacity https://www.solutionsmedical.net.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=140&product_id=4193
This device is designed for most teenagers and adults who don’t suffer from severe lung conditions. This version is recommended for most people who don’t have more demanding needs.

AirPhysio Blue - Low Lung Capacity https://www.solutionsmedical.net.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=140&product_id=4192
This version is designed specifically for people with low lung capacity as a result of an ongoing severe respiratory condition, advanced age, or respiratory muscle weakness. Has two resistance settings.

AirPhysio Red - Sports/Athletes https://www.solutionsmedical.net.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=140&product_id=4191
This device is made specifically to assist athletes with a high level of fitness but who suffer from a condition like asthma that impedes lung function. This can help in maintaining optimal lung capacity and hygiene.

AirPhysio Orange - Children https://www.solutionsmedical.net.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=140&product_id=4275
This version of the device is made to suit children with respiratory conditions or low lung capacity.
