🧠 Brain Awareness Week 16th - 22nd March 🧠

Your brain is your body’s control centre — responsible for memory, movement, emotions and decision-making. This week is all about raising awareness of brain health and the importance of looking after it at every stage of life.

Simple ways to support brain health:
✔️ Stay physically active
✔️ Keep socially connected
✔️ Challenge your mind with new skills or hobbies
✔️ Manage blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes
✔️ Get quality sleep

If you have concerns about memory changes, headaches, mood changes or neurological symptoms, don’t ignore them. Early assessment can make a difference.

Speak with your GP if you’d like to discuss your brain health or risk factors.

Let’s take steps toward a healthier brain — not just this week, but every day.

🌾 Coeliac Awareness Week 13th - 20th March 🌾

This week we’re raising awareness about Coeliac disease, an autoimmune condition where the body reacts to gluten, damaging the small intestine. In Australia, many people living with coeliac disease remain undiagnosed.

Common symptoms can include:
✔️ Ongoing digestive issues (bloating, diarrhoea, stomach pain)
✔️ Fatigue or low iron levels
✔️ Unexplained weight loss
✔️ Skin rashes
✔️ In children, slowed growth

The only treatment for coeliac disease is a strict lifelong gluten-free diet, but diagnosis is important before making any dietary changes.

If you have symptoms or a family history of coeliac disease, speak with your GP about testing and next steps.

😴 World Sleep Day 😴

Sleep is essential for good health and wellbeing. Quality sleep helps support your immune system, improves concentration and mood, and plays an important role in maintaining heart and brain health.

Many people struggle with sleep issues such as Insomnia or Sleep apnea, which can affect daily life and long-term health if left untreated.

Tips for better sleep:
✔️ Keep a regular sleep schedule
✔️ Limit screen time before bed
✔️ Avoid caffeine late in the day
✔️ Create a calm, comfortable sleep environment

If you regularly feel tired during the day, snore heavily, or have difficulty falling or staying asleep, speak with your GP about possible causes and support.

🩺 World Kidney Day 🩺

Your kidneys play a vital role in keeping your body healthy — filtering waste from your blood, balancing fluids, and helping control blood pressure.

Many people with Chronic Kidney Disease have no symptoms in the early stages, which is why regular health checks are so important.

You may be at higher risk if you:
✔️ Have diabetes
✔️ Have high blood pressure
✔️ Have a family history of kidney disease
✔️ Are over 60

Simple blood and urine tests can help detect kidney problems early. If you’re at risk or haven’t had a check in a while, speak with your GP.

Let’s raise awareness and take steps to protect our kidney health this World Kidney Day.

Free mammograms for women in YANCHEP!

BreastScreen WA’s FREE screening mammogram service is coming to Yanchep from 01/04/2026 - 15/05/2026 and the mobile clinic will be located at: 81 Yanchep Beach Road.

Women 40 years and over with no symptoms are eligible for a FREE screening mammogram .

Breast cancer is the most common life threatening cancer for women and 1 in 7 women in Australia will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

Having a screening mammogram (breast x-ray) every two years significantly increases the chance of a woman surviving breast cancer and reduces the amount of treatment required. More than 75 per cent of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50. Research shows that screening is most effective for this age group.

👁️ World Glaucoma Week 8th - 14th March 👁️

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it can cause gradual vision loss without noticeable symptoms in the early stages.

In Australia, regular eye checks are essential — especially if you:
✔️ Are over 40
✔️ Have a family history of glaucoma
✔️ Have diabetes or high blood pressure
✔️ Are of African or Asian heritage

Early detection and treatment can slow or prevent vision loss. A simple eye test with your optometrist can make all the difference.

If you have concerns about your eye health, speak with your GP to discuss your risk and referral options.

Let’s protect our vision this World Glaucoma Week 💚

👂 World Hearing Day – 3 March 👂

Today we recognise the importance of protecting our hearing and raising awareness about hearing loss.

Hearing plays a vital role in communication, connection and overall wellbeing — yet many people delay having their hearing checked. Early detection and intervention can make a significant difference at any age.

You may benefit from a hearing check if you:
✔️ Often ask people to repeat themselves
✔️ Turn the TV up louder than others prefer
✔️ Struggle to hear in noisy environments

If you have concerns about your hearing, speak with your GP to discuss assessment and referral options.

Let’s prioritise healthy hearing — not just today, but every day.
