We are about to have some extreme high temperatures over the following days. Here are a few tips on helping your pets through this hot weather.
DO NOT walk your dog without checking the heat of the footpath and road first. Place the back of your hand against the ground to check the heat - if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. It’s likely to be too hot by early morning over the next couple of days.
AVOID leaving animals in cars for any amount of time - the inside of a vehicle will quickly become a furnace and death can happen quickly. Cancel any non urgent appointments that require car travel.
Make sure your pets have access to plenty of fresh drinking water and shade. Bring your pets indoors if possible.
KEEP the number of your vet clinic on your phone and consult them if you have any concerns about your pet. The very young, the elderly, the sick/immune compromised and the brachycephalic breeds are at higher risk so stay vigilant.
FILL, and refill pet water bowls regularly. Be aware of how much your pet is drinking and provide opportunities for them to hydrate.
