When Megan gave birth to baby Hudson it was a defining period of time for me. I walked away from the public system.

Never again would I work a double shift. Work understaffed. Work with unsafe skill mix. Work without meal or toilet breaks. Enforce rules and policies that women found restricted their experience. I wanted to finish my career doing midwifery as I feel it should be, not what it had become.

I belonged out in the ‘wild’ of the community with the women. Providing choice of care. Supporting them to birth where they wanted. With whomever they wanted present. Advocating for women. Listening and truly hearing what women wanted. Working with their strengths, not constantly assessing them as a risk.

I’m so glad I made the decisions I made. I’m so glad Hudson’s birth occurred and he was born into a room of love, as Megan has always described his birth.

It is a double edged sword when a care episode comes to an end. You develop such an amazing bond with the women and families you care for. You are invited into the intimate workings of a family. You see, hear and experience the most beautiful moments of a family, with a new family member being born. You play with the other kids. Say hello to the family dog. Share stories. Laugh, learn and grow. Sometimes you even cry together.

I have been incredibly blessed to spend such precious time with Bre, Adam, Joss, baby Sonny and family pooch Pippa.

I’m a better person for the experience. Sincerely thank you.

ABSTL closing..

Hi everyone. As you all know, life has been full of surprises so far and with more grandbabies to come, I’ve decided that something has to go to free up time with family.

So…. I’m winding up ABSTL and won’t be taking any new clients.

Thank you so much for your support and engagement over the last 10 years. I have met many many amazing people and learnt so much from them.

I am a better person for doing ABSTL and a better midwife.

Now it’s time to be nanny for my granbabies and with twins on the way for Megan and Jake, life is only getting busier!

Thank you for trusting me and engaging me for your most important journey of pregnancy, birth and parenting. I have been very blessed and my heart is full.

How bloody lucky am I to be able to give Huxley his first bath!! Incredibly gracious gift given to me by Robyn and Jesse Peters. Isn’t he a tough little cookie, chest tube dressing now also off, just the NGT to go.

One of the great innovations at the NICU at Monash Children’s, has been secure remote access for parents and family to login and see what baby Huxley has been up to when Robyn and Jesse were physically unable to be with him. It has provided great comfort and bonding, in times of separation which are tough when you live a long way away and have other children to maintain normalcy for.
Meanwhile Nanny has been running, painting and colouring workshops and some fun time at the park!
Very grateful for every single member of our family, they are simply everything ❤️❤️❤️

8 days after arriving…. Dad finally gets to hold his son.

He looks so small in Jesse’s arms.

Little Huxley has moved from full ventilation, to bubble CPAP and now high flow oxygen as he recovers from his pneumothorax. What a week he has had, everyday getting stronger ❤️.

Meanwhile Nanny has been wrestling his siblings in and out of the bath!

One hundred and twenty hours Robyn had to wait to have a cuddle of her little fighter, Huxley. Today was the day! Still so grateful to get to this point.

Mums and dads of prem babies don’t get to make the choices they’d prefer, they have to be patient and guided by the health status of their little one. A tiny 1.6kg cuddle.

Congratulations Robyn and Jess. So well deserved and emotional. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
