Reflexology Reflex Series - leading up to our Introduction Workshop!
π£ The Diaphragm in Reflexology π£
The diaphragm is the primary muscle involved in breathing, separating the thoracic (chest) cavity from the abdominal cavity.
In reflexology, working the diaphragm reflex is believed to:
β’ Promote relaxation: Gentle massage of this reflex helps trigger the parasympathetic nervous system, encouraging a 'rest and digest' state.
β’ Improve breathing: Can help release tension in the diaphragm, allowing deeper and more efficient breathing.
β’ Reduce stress & anxiety: Many clients report a calming effect when the diaphragm reflex is worked.
β’ Support emotional release: The diaphragm area is sometimes associated with holding in emotions β working it may help release stored tension.
β’ Assist digestion: By aiding deep breathing and relaxation, it indirectly supports the digestive process.
Reflex Location:
πΉOn the feet, the diaphragm reflex runs horizontally across the foot just below the ball of the foot, from the medial (inside) to the lateral (outside) edge.
πΉOn the hand (palm facing )it runs across the hands before they join the thumb.
Simple Technique to try:
πΉ Use a gentle, sweeping 'thumb walk' or press-and-release technique across this reflex zone.
πΉAlways work slowly and mindfully
πΉTake deep breaths while the reflex is being stimulated - this enhances it's effect!.
πDo you ever feel like you're holding your breath through stressful moments? π
This technique can be practiced on yourself for instant stress relief!
