Wednesday at 6pm at the Unanderra Community Centre ... heaters on!

We’ll be looking particularly at hips and forward bends in this coming week. Getting those hips mobile but strong is so important for giving the spine proper support in all our daily activities, and … this practice contributes to good health and function in the abdominal organs.

If you have a sore back I will show you how to approach forward bends in a safe manner and improve your mobility. This also applies to sore necks: it is perhaps surprising that it is often an incorrect method in forward bends that is exacerbating those neck problems.

Be in the pose.

In class we learn many techniques to develop functional postural action, balance and control, and to direct our awareness in a more absorbing fashion. These things are important and have many remedial benefits. In class we learn stuff: developing knowledge and focus, we’re observed to ensure we don’t go astray and we’re given motivation and a trajectory - things often extremely difficult to develop on our own.

Like tinkering with the prized car in the garage every weekend, fine tuning, giving it a polish … that’s all very well … but sometimes we just need to enjoy taking it for a spin.

Sometimes we just need to be in the pose.

Classes begin again for 2023 this Wednesday at 6pm with a class designed to help you relieve those sore backs - you don't need to have a sore back to experience the joys ; )

This week we’ll be doing work to ease those aches, pains and tensions in our backs. Whether occasionally or chronically, most of us have experienced back pain at some stage. The postures in class will be deeply restorative but also act to shift and release muscular tensions that lead to back pain. The different actions the postures prompt will bring deeper insight into how to manage your back longterm, whether or not you are currently experiencing discomfort. I hope to see you there.

Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10am;
Tuesday, Restorative and Pranayama (breathing) at 6pm;
Thursday at 6pm.

Beginners and all levels welcome. Please bring your own mat to class, other equipment is supplied. Online classes are also available.

Yoga at Unanderra

Johnny is a highly qualified, certified Iyengar Yoga teacher with over 22 years of full-time teaching experience. Classes at the Unanderra Community Centre cater for all levels of student from beginners, just starting out, to experienced yoga practitioners.

These classes will improve your strength, mobility, posture and balance. You don’t need to fit or flexible to begin:

Mondays 5:45pm - 7:20pm for students with at least one year of regular practice;

Wednesdays 6:00pm - 7:30pm for beginners and general students;
