Break the cycle. 💪
•
Posted • Happy Tuesday. 🌻
I have been fascinated by Intergenerational Trauma and this idea that trauma can be passed down on through generations. I’ve been reading a lot about epigenetics and neuroplasticity recently.
•
We all inherent DNA from our parents. The genes within our DNA control how our body works. This is Genetics. We can also inherit the effects of our parents lifestyle and exposures in the form of tags on our DNA which is called Epigenetic’s.
For example, your child will inherent your DNA, the effects of your lifestyle choices and exposures. They will also be exposed to different environmental exposures which lead changes to these epigenetic tags. The way we choose to live our life, influences our tags and improves our overall health. Epigenetic’s is studying how life factors affect the expression of those genes but it doesn’t do anything to your DNA.
By choosing to break the cycle and unhealthy patterns, you are choosing to influence you tags and improve your mental health. This will be passed down to your children.
If trauma can be passed down through generations, so can healing. Do not underestimate the impact you’re making.
Note: I didn’t get a chance to correct this on my original post as IG doesn’t let us make corrections without completely reposting, but given the Bangladesh Liberation War was in 1971 it would more appropriate to add it to the parent section of this infographic as opposed to the grandparents box. It will definitely be reflected in the future updated version of this post. 🌻
