✨ Saying Goodbye in the Playroom ✨

Goodbyes in the playroom are never rushed… they are held with care, intention, and meaning.

In Child-Centred Play Therapy, endings are just as important as beginnings. They are part of the therapeutic process — a chance to reflect, to celebrate growth, and to gently prepare for what comes next.

As we move toward a child’s final session, we don’t just “end” — we count down together.
We talk about it.
We make space for feelings.
We plan something special for that last day.

Because goodbyes can bring up a mix of emotions — pride, sadness, excitement, even uncertainty — and all of those feelings are welcome here 🤍

Today, we celebrated one of our wonderful clients as they finished their play therapy journey.
There were special treats, a small gift, and a moment to honour just how far they’ve come.

These moments matter.

They help children experience that relationships can be safe…
that endings can be gentle…
and that they can carry what they’ve learned with them into the world beyond the playroom 🌿

At Curious Box, we don’t just say goodbye —
we hold it, honour it, and make it meaningful.

✨ Growing the Way We Show Up ✨

Last week, Emily and Dawn attended a workshop: The Way of Being through the Queensland Institute of Play Therapy as part of their play therappy training.

A beautiful space of reflection, learning, and leaning into that “comfortably uncomfortable” place — where real growth and therapeutic change begin. 🌿

We are grateful to be part of this ever-growing play therapy community and the ripple it creates for the children and families we support. 💛

Emily and Mercia had a wonderful evening at the QIPT social event, connecting with fellow play therapists and sharing in the joy of community. It was such a lovely opportunity to unwind, laugh, and reflect on the meaningful work we all do supporting children and families through play. 💛

Being surrounded by others who are passionate about play therapy reminds us how important connection, collaboration, and ongoing learning are in this field. We’re grateful to be part of such a supportive professional community.

Here’s to more moments of connection, playful conversations, and continuing to grow together. 🎈

Last night I stood beside my daughter in a sea of people watching Lorde — and I was struck by the depth of her lyrics.

Her songs hold so much of what we see in the playroom every day:

✨ Growing up and not quite knowing who you are yet.
✨ The push and pull between independence and belonging.
✨ Big feelings that don’t always make sense.
✨ Friendship shifts.
✨ First heartbreaks.
✨ Wanting to be seen — but also wanting to hide.

There’s something powerful about hearing thousands of voices sing about insecurity, identity, anger, longing and joy — out loud, unapologetically.

So much of Lorde’s writing captures that in-between space — not a child anymore, not fully an adult either. That tender, sometimes messy, beautifully human stage of becoming.

As a play therapist, I’m constantly reminded that children and teens don’t need their feelings fixed — they need them witnessed.

Last night, music did the witnessing.

My daughter and I didn’t just sing the lyrics — we felt them.
And in doing so, we shared something wordless but deeply connecting.

Art gives language to emotions that feel too big, too confusing, or too vulnerable to say directly.

And that’s what play does too.

Sometimes healing looks like toys on the floor.
Sometimes it looks like tears.
And sometimes it looks like singing at the top of your lungs in a crowded stadium.

Big feelings deserve big spaces. 🖤

So much goodness in one room today 💛✨

We had the absolute joy of welcoming Megan from Sacred House Play Therapy and Jae from Little Hands Play Therapy into the Curious Box Playroom for some yummy food, warm cups of tea, and rich conversations about all things Play Therapy in our local community.

There’s something pretty special about play therapists gathering together — sharing stories, ideas, reflections, and dreaming about how we can continue supporting children and families to heal and thrive. 🌿🎨🧸

Grateful for women who are passionate about the power of play and the little humans we get to walk alongside every week. 💛

Here’s to more shared tables, thoughtful conversations, and strengthening Play Therapy in our local community.

Thanks for coming!
