We love this Aided Language Display from Two Way Street!

This Sunday, 1 September, is Father's Day! ❤️We've created this special two-page Aided Language Display (ALD) to enable the people in your life who use AAC to have special conversations with their Dad, Grandfather or any other father-figure in their life this weekend!

The download even includes a 'Rating Scale' that can be used to rate the best (and worst) Dad jokes. Let's face it, we expect the 'bad' Dad joke rating tile to get a pretty good workout… 😂

✨ Toddler Tip ✨

HELP! How do I get my little one to add words?!

❓A quick and easy technique we use in therapy to support increasing sentence length is EXPANSION during play.

❔When your child uses a word/ words, you wait and then respond relating back what they said & add-on words.

🧒”Doggy walk”
👨‍👧”The doggy is walking”

❓Make sure your sentence is repeated back in a grammatically correct way, ie don’t say “doggy walking now”~ you’ve missed out the little grammatical words ‘the’ and ‘is’ ... if we model our phrases incorrectly our kiddos will learn the incorrect form!

✨Remember, your little lions may not repeat or start using the extra words straight away... they may need to hear it many times first before they will starting combining!

🔡 Phoneme manipulation 🔡
(Part 1)

Phoneme (sound) manipulation is practiced with adding a sound, deleting a sound or substituting a sound in spoken words.

The hierarchy for manipulating sounds is:
➕Adding - add ‘k’ to ‘at’ = cat
➖Deleting - take ‘s’ from ‘sit = it
🔄Substituting - pan, change the ‘p’ to ‘t’ = tan (more info next Monday)

You can manipulate various sounds in the words including:
🔅Initial - ‘it’ add a ‘s’ at the start = sit
🔅Final - ‘bee’, add ‘n’ at the end = bean
🔅Second sound in blend - ‘skip’, delete the ‘k’ = sip
