Please join us in celebrating the appointment of Rach, our new Clinical Naturopath.

Rach is a degree-qualified naturopath with a beautiful depth of experience and a genuine passion for helping people feel truly well - not just symptom-free, but energised, resilient and at home in their bodies.

Her journey into naturopathy began after completing a Bachelor of Psychological Science and working internationally with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and within hospital psychiatric care. That experience shaped her understanding that health is far more than diet and exercise - it’s safety, connection, sleep, environment, belonging, and the many factors that work together to shape our wellbeing.

Rach brings a thoughtful, evidence-based, root-cause approach to every consultation. Through detailed case-taking and comprehensive testing where appropriate, she works to uncover the underlying drivers of symptoms - always blending modern science with traditional naturopathic wisdom.

She focuses on realistic, achievable strategies tailored to each individual. No rigid protocols. No band-aid fixes. Just personalised, compassionate care designed to support your body’s natural capacity for healing.

Alongside her clinical practice, Rach is also a certified Pilates instructor and has a background in disability support work - strengthening her appreciation for movement, adaptability, and meeting people exactly where they are.

Understanding Cortisol: When Stress Becomes a Burden

The Hidden Impact of Cortisol

Cortisol is your body’s main stress hormone — designed to help you respond to pressure, protect against danger, and regulate important systems including metabolism, immunity, and sleep.

In healthy balance, cortisol helps you stay alert and resilient.
But when cortisol remains elevated for long periods, it can begin to affect overall wellbeing — often showing up as:

💥 Fatigue or that “wired but tired” feeling
💥 Changes in weight distribution (especially around the abdomen)
💥 Difficulty concentrating or “brain fog”
💥 Restless sleep or increased anxiety
💥 Mood changes or irritability
💥 Reduced immune resilience

Long-term imbalance in cortisol levels may also be linked with inflammation, reduced hormone sensitivity, and feelings of burnout or emotional exhaustion.

What Can Influence Cortisol Levels?

1. Ongoing Stress
Physical, mental, and emotional stress are among the most common triggers. When the brain perceives constant pressure, it signals the adrenal glands to release more cortisol — creating a “fight or flight” state that can be hard to switch off.

2. Poor Sleep and Stimulant Overload
Late nights, excessive caffeine, blue light exposure, and irregular sleep can keep cortisol higher than ideal when it should naturally taper in the evening.

3. Methylation and the MTHFR Gene
The methylation pathway uses nutrients such as vitamins B2, B6, B12, and folate to support energy production, detoxification, and stress-hormone metabolism.

Some people have variations in the MTHFR gene, which may reduce how efficiently these nutrients are processed.
When methylation is less efficient, the body may use more energy to manage stress, sometimes leaving you more prone to fatigue or tension.

4. Blood-Sugar Fluctuations
Skipping meals or eating a diet high in refined sugars and processed carbohydrates can trigger cortisol release as the body works to stabilise glucose levels.

5. Inflammation and Hidden Stressors
Persistent inflammation, digestive imbalance, toxin exposure, or unresolved emotional strain can also influence cortisol patterns over time.

Supporting Healthy Cortisol Balance Naturally

The goal is not to remove cortisol — it’s an essential hormone.
Instead, the focus is on restoring its natural daily rhythm so the body can return to balance.

1. Support Methylation Pathways
Maintaining adequate intake of methylation nutrients — such as folate, B2, B6, and B12 — may help support normal energy and stress metabolism.

If you have an MTHFR gene variation, your practitioner can guide you on suitable nutritional and lifestyle support.

2. Traditional Herbal Support
Herbs such as Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) have been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to help the body adapt to stress and promote general wellbeing.
