When we are feeling low its easy to feel disconnected and isolated. One of the principle features of the Self-Compassion approach is the idea to connect out to the wider community in our various states. "I wonder how many others are feeling the same way that I feel right now?" and send that self-energy out into the world and see if you can feel a sense of connection in those moments

Great tapping script from Dr Peta Stapleton 🎄

Great tapping script from Dr Peta Stapleton 🎄

Unfortunately stress, anxiety, and depression are common during the festive season.

But we can use some tapping to calm your nervous system. Here are a few days on how to do this.

Write down everything you can think of that might make you feel overwhelmed, flustered, stressed etc during the Christmas period. Let's start with overwhelm.

While tapping the side of the hand point (on either hand), repeat these phrases out loud, (or change the words to fit your exact situation).
“Even though I feel completely overwhelmed at the moment, I accept myself anyway.”
“Even though I feel stressed with the thought of everything I have to do, I accept how I feel.”
“Even though I feel sad, depressed, lonely, overwhelmed, tired, exhausted……., I accept this is how I feel right now.”

Now for the reminder phrases:

Tap through each of the points:

Eyebrow: “I feel so tired”
Side of Eye: “I’m feeling overwhelmed.”
Under Eye: “I feel angry.”
Nose: “I feel stressed.”
Chin: “This is overwhelming.”
Collarbone: “I am SO exhausted.”
Under Arm: “I feel so much resistance.”
Head: “I don't know how to change all of this.”

Tap around and see how your body feels after a few rounds. Try and identify areas which might be holding tension, emotions or overwhelm. Keep tapping until you are a 0 or a 1 out of 10 (10 being the most overwhelm, and 0 being complete calm). Jot down your notes to check in later.

Tomorrow we will tap some more 💞

Experience feelings like frustration, anxiety and insecurity, our heart-rhythm patterns become more erratic. These erratic patterns are sent to the emotional centers in the brain, which recognizes them as stressful feelings. HeartMath’s research shows, when we experience heartfelt emotions such as appreciation, love, care and compassion, the heart produces a very different rhythm – one that has a smooth pattern and looks something like gently rolling hills. Learning to shift out of stressful emotional reactions to these heartfelt emotions can have profound positive effects on our overall well-being.

About us

We are a small team of psychologists who strive for client outcomes within a safe and welcoming environment. We encourage collaborative sessions, where clients can freely share their experiences and our dedicated psychologists can offer skills and knowledge to support wellbeing. Our psychologists utilise evidenced based treatments in combination with progressive psychological interventions with emerging research.

About our name:

The olive branch is widely known to represent peace. Similarly, however, less known, the elm tree represents inner strength. In reality the elm tree is flexible and durable and has a grain that is interlocking; therefore, strong and durable.

History has demonstrated the Elm’s resilience, with one particular tree being called “the survivor tree” following its continued existence through bombings and fires. Despite this particular trees resilience and survival against the odds, it still needed protection from the surrounding community to prevent it from being cut-down.
