🧡 Fractionated Coconut Oil 🧡
Fractionated coconut oil (aka FCO) is a fantastic natural product that has so many handy uses around the home.
We all have normal coconut oil in our pantry right? So how is fractionated coconut oil any different? During a non-chemical fractionating process, the long chain fatty acids are removed, those fatty acids make coconut oil solid at room temperature, and also make it more susceptible to oxidation.
Our fractionated coconut oil remains liquid at all times-it gets absorbed completely into the skin not leaving any oily residue, it doesn't have a smell, and doesn't stain clothing.
How do we use it?
1. Carrier oil: the main reason we talk about FCO so frequently is for our essential oil use. We use it for topical application of essential oils - we dilute them on the skin, avoid skin sensitivity and make our essential oil use more productive.
2. Hair: FCO is a perfect replacement for those expensive argon oils from the hair dresser. It will help rehydrate your hair, without making it heavy or appear oily/dirty. Apply to the ends of your hair daily and apply if using heat styling products.
3. Face moisturiser: FCO is a great alternative to paraben-filled moisturising products. It will help hydrate the skin without looking greasy, balances out naturally oily skin and it is perfect for all skin types.
4. Makeup remover: add a few drops of FCO to a cotton ball, tissue or pad and it makes a perfect makeup remover, and is especially gentle for the eye area.
5. Nails: FCO is great for moisturising your cuticles especially when you give yourself a manicure.
6. Feet: FCO is great for the dry and dead skin on our feet. Rub into feet, leave for a few minutes and then exfoliate.
7. Massage: because FCO isn't oily and doesn't stain it is perfect for giving a massage. It fees velvety on the skin too.
8. Leather: you can use FCO to clean and bring up your leather furniture to look like new! Use a microfibre cloth with your oil and apply in a circular motion.
9. Wood polish: FCO is also great for wood surfaces, polish with a microfibre cloth and you will have beautifully oiled timber. Great for dining tables, chairs, bench-tops etc
10. Car interiors: using FCO to clean the dash, steering wheel and console of your car will clean it up beautifully and add instant shine.
Adding essential oils:
There are essential oils you can add in with any of the above, depending on the outcome you desire.
For hair you can add rosemary or geranium, for your face and skin you can add frankincense, myrrh, lavender, bergamot, for massage you can add AromaTouch, Ice Blue or lemongrass, for wood, leather and interiors you can add lemon and wild orange - the possibilities are endless!!
