Wow… the ancient ruins of Tikal in Guatemala and Chichen Itza in Mexico were mind blowing! To think that these magnificent structures were built between 800 BC - 900 AD and still standing is unfathomable and a credit to this ancient Mayan engineering and civilisation

Nestled in the jungle there’s definitely a strong, palpable energy felt as you walk around these ancient grounds and hear of stories from these turbulent times.

It was a place of residence, a place of worship, a community and a kingdom.

They believed in the fruitful afterlife and feared the underworld. In fact they believed Women who died at childbirth and those bodies that sacrificed themselves went straight to the afterlife and did not have to pass through the terrifying underworld.

Temples were built as worship and to keep track of calendar time. Another interesting fact was that one of these pyramids known as ‘Lost World’ was used to calculate the equinox and solstice… the sun shone on a different structure dependent on the time.

A deeply moving experience!

And amongst the ‘feels’ fun in the sun on an island in Belize and cities full of colour!

Hello to all my lovely clients and Insta community, I hope you are all well

Hola 👋🏽 Made it to Mexico 🇲🇽

- Caught a sunrise over the Caribbean in Cancun
- I’m having THE BEST time !
- Beautiful turquoise water and the whitest of sands
- A catamaran over to Isla Mujeres (island of woman). In Pre-Columbian times, this island was considered sacred to the Mayan goddess Ixchel, the goddess of the moon, happiness, fertility, and medicine. It is believed the only inhabitants of the island were Ixchel and her court of women. Later, when the people of Spain came to the island in the 16th century, they found many statues and images of the goddess… like the woman I’m standing with 🐠
- Sunsets from another island Holbox
- And so much amazing street art

Thats Party in Spanish ! And oh what a time it has been

Starting a new career in your late 30’s can be challenging. I moved from the western medical health model to a medicine that encompasses so much more. Diet, health, lifestyle, supplementation and so much more - like that beautiful parasympathetic nervous system… that dreamy feeling you get after an acupuncture treatment.

But my transition was made easy thanks to the amazing staff . Rach, Holly, Jess, Mirander, Michelle and Shannon. Thank you for holding such beautiful space for me to practice what I love, Chinese Medicine.

To my clients, my teachers and my friends, it makes leaving so much harder knowing that I won’t see your smiley faces every week. Thank you for trusting me with your care. I wish you all the best for the remainder of 2023. May all your dreams come true

✨ D H A R M A ✨

Before I became a Chinese medical practitioner I studied and taught yoga - the philosophies of which still resonate with me.

The primary quest of a yogi is to discover, follow and live their dharma. Your dharma means your unique life purpose, your true calling - what you were put here to do. An inner wisdom, or a cosmic guidance that governs not only you and I, but the entire universe itself!

You see, when you embody your dharma, you live an authentic life that aligns with your true nature. Realising and honouring your unique gifts and sharing them with others supports and nurtures the wellbeing of the entire universe.

I am beyond grateful to have found my dharma - practising acupuncture, but now that same dharma is calling me to go travelling, explore different cultures and set my heart on fire. Meet the guy in the pic… a beautiful human, Steveo, my life and travel companion. He is joy, adventure & cheekiness all wrapped into one!

And so it is with sadness that I inform you all that I will be leaving early April - called to explore the beauty of Central America.

Thank you to Rach and my work colleagues for an enjoyable and inspiring work place.

Thank you to my loyal clients - my greatest teachers. Thank you for trusting me with your health and teaching me about all the layers of healing. I really loved supporting each and everyone of you, my friends.

This wonderlust soul will return to the Gold Coast, maybe by the end of the year, maybe sooner and I will be back doing what I love, my dharma.. facilitating bodies to heal themselves.

So keep an eye out for me. On this page I will share some of the wisdom I discover about health and healing from ancient cultures, traditions and rituals… from Mexico to Costa Rica and everything in between.

Take care and see you again soon

🦵 S C I A T I C A P A I N 🦵

A common alignment I see regularly Gold Coast Acupuncture] is sciatica. It usually presents as lower back pain with pain radiating down the back or side of the leg.

Sciatica is compression of the sciatic nerve which results in pain radiating down the back or side of the leg. It is commonly caused by nerve root compression at various levels in the spine and or the piriformis muscle or inflammation in the sciatic nerve itself.

The sciatic nerve originates around L4 to S3, travels through the glut max and down the leg - and that is the classic pathway of pain!

In my treatments of sciatica I use a combination of needling both meridians and muscles, fire cupping to assist with fascia release and tuina a Chinese type of massage which all relax tight muscles, improve blood circulation, regulate the nervous system and release neurotransmitters to reduce pain.

With a background in both western and eastern medicine I feel one of the most important self-healing practices that we could ever do is to simply get out of the way of our body’s own innate capacity for healing.

Our bodies know how to heal and when we learn how to support our health and healing in a sustainable way we help our bodies do this job effectively.

One of the ways I choose to self-heal is with acupuncture. A restorative practice that enhances natural homeostasis, calms my nervous system & gives me back my vitality 🤸‍♀️

🩸 Acupuncture is Effective for Relieving Period Pain 🩸

An Australian study has shown that the intensity and duration of period pain can be reduced by up to 50% with the administration of acupuncture.

Period pain or dysmenorrhea is a condition that affects up to 95% of menstruating women.

There are two types

1️⃣ Primary Dysmenorrhea - no known health conditions can account for the painful cramps

2️⃣ Secondary Dysmenorrhea - pain as a result from endometriosis or uterine fibroids

In the study 74 adult women aged between 18 and 45 were administered 12 acupuncture treatments over three menstrual cycles. They also underwent a treatment in the first 48 hours of their menstrual periods.

It was found that the women undergoing acupuncture more frequently experienced more significant improvements in period pain intensity and related symptoms, as well as in overall quality of life.

It’s been a while, so let me reintroduce myself …

I’m Beck, a registered acupuncturist with 16 years experience working with health and the body. I’m lucky to call beautiful Burleigh home and practice my passion and skills in Accupuncture at Vyne Health in Varsity Lakes Monday to Thursdays.

I am truely passionate about womens health & their cycles, with my treatment focus on fertility, pregnancy & the facilitation of labour. It is such an honour and privilege to work with my female clients and assist them through their journey. Insomnia, anxiety, depression & musculoskeletal issues are also areas in which my passion for treating lies.

In a previous life I was an emergency nurse and have worked in many very busy emergency departments. This experience has provided me with a wealth of knowledge on how stress and burnout affects the physical and emotional body. During those years I used Accupuncture as a modality to treat my own nervous system. It’s incredible going from the client to the practitioner and now being able to share these same practices with my clients who are feeling the (very common and universal) stress and burnout of todays modern world.

I love connecting people to their physical bodies. We all have an innate self healing mechanism that when stimulated allows our body to come back to balance. I do this by placing needles on certain points of the body to open up energy pathways (meridians), myofascial cupping, electroacupuncture, massage & meditation.

I would love to assist you on your health journey. Let’s meet and have a chat! DM for further info or to book a consultation.

Acupuncture Therapy: Ancient Chinese Medicine to Modern Acupuncture

Chinese Medicine and acupuncture has been around for over 2,500 years and is based on the theory that the harmonious flow of Qi is vital for good health.

Traditional Chinese Medicine understands that an imbalance or disturbance of Qi in the body leads to health ailments and disease. To correct this, small acupuncture needles are used on specific sites of the body, manipulating the flow of Qi and balancing the opposing elements of Yin and Yang thus restoring good health and vitality to the individual.

Acupuncture was introduced to Australia in the 1800’s and has now become a widely accepted form of complementary medicine with 1 in 10 Aussies having tried it.

Highly researched, the evidence shows that acupuncture can influence the behaviour of nerve signals to the brain, increasing pain-killing hormones and reducing stress and pain responses in the body.

N A D A PROTOCOL

An ear acupuncture protocol involving the placement of 5 needles into specific sites on each ear.

Benefits
▫️Increased calmness, better sleep and less agitation
▫️Relief from stress and emotional trauma
▫️Discovering inner quiet and strength
▫️Reduce cravings for alcohol, ni****ne, drugs and sugar
▫️Minimise withdrawal symptoms

For those of you who have had an acupuncture treatment from me you know I love needling the ears. Here’s why...

Auricular or ear acupuncture innovates the cranial nerves and has an influence on the bodies vagal tone, resulting in stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which is our rest, digest and healing mechanism. In other words it chills us out, makes us feel good & repairs happen in our body on a cellular level 🤸‍♀️
