Did you know the vestibular system helps with balance, movement, AND attention?

It tells our brain how we’re moving and where our body is in space which affects things like:
• Fidgeting or needing to move often
• Getting dizzy or carsick
• Being clumsy or cautious
• Seeking adventurous movement (jumping, spinning)

If your child struggles with balance, focus, or movement tolerance, OT can help with fun activities to support this key sense!

2026 is upon us, and we’re excited for what’s ahead!

This year, our team has come together to create a team theme that reflects who we are and what our keys values and therefore focus will be for 2026. This theme is about how we support each other and ensure that the whole team is working at their best.

Our team theme is:

Learning • Laughter • Looking after each other

Each element represents an important part of how we work together and therefore, how we care for our clients:

Learning – Growing together so we can continue to deliver the best care and stay at the forefront of our profession.

Laughter – Bringing joy into our work and outside of work and creating a positive, welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Looking After Each Other – Supporting our teammates and our clients, because wellbeing is a shared journey.

You’ll start to see our new theme and logo throughout our clinics and across our socials keep an eye out! We can’t wait to share this next chapter with you.

Here’s to a meaningful, connected, and uplifting 2026!

Emotional regulation doesn’t come naturally to little ones they need our help!

Young children learn to manage big feelings through co-regulation that means they rely on calm, caring adults to help them feel safe and calm.

Tips for parents:
• Stay calm when your child is upset
• Name their feelings (“I see you’re frustrated”)
• Offer hugs or soothing touch
• Keep routines consistent
• Model calming strategies like deep breaths

With your support, your child will build self-regulation skills day by day.

What is bilateral coordination and why does it matter?

It’s your child’s ability to use both sides of their body together smoothly, like:
• Holding paper with one hand while cutting with scissors
• Buttoning shirts or tying shoelaces
• Playing catch or climbing at the playground

Effective bilateral coordination helps kids move confidently and do everyday tasks with ease.

If your child struggles with these skills, OT can help with fun, targeted activities that build teamwork between both hands!

Should my child be tying their shoelaces by now?

Most kids are ready to start learning around age 5–6, but many don’t master it until 7–8 and that’s perfectly normal!

Tying shoes is a complex task that involves:
• Fine motor skills
• Bilateral coordination
• Sequencing + memory
• Focus and patience

If your child is still struggling, OT can help break it down into simple steps, build the skills they need, and support independence in self-care.

We’re all about function over frustration every small win build confidence!

5 Signs Your Child Might Benefit from OT

You don’t need a diagnosis to see if OT could help. Here are 5 gentle signs to watch for:

🧦 Struggles with everyday tasks like dressing or using utensils
✍️ Difficulty with writing, cutting, or fine motor skills
💥 Frequent meltdowns or big reactions to sounds, textures, or lights
💤 Poor coordination, clumsiness, or tiring quickly
🧠 Trouble focusing, following directions, or staying organized

If any of these feel familiar, an OT can help you understand what’s going on—and how to support your child’s unique needs.
