✨ Period problems series – part 2 ✨

🌹 Painful Period Phoebe 🌹

Your period is your monthly report card. It helps you see if you’re fuelling your body adequately, if environmental toxins are influencing your hormones, or if stress is showing up internally.

Here’s what your period symptoms might be trying to tell you:

Cramping and period pain can have many causes (and it’s always worth investigating), but when tests show “nothing wrong,” it often points to inflammatory pathways that have become overactive.

When prostaglandins rise too high, they trigger uterine spasms and pain — but the good news is, you can support this naturally by:

- supporting muscle relaxation with magnesium and calcium
- reducing inflammatory triggers like alcohol, smoking, dairy, gluten, processed foods, and environmental toxins
- nourishing with antioxidant-rich foods high in vitamin E and vitamin C

Pain isn’t “normal,” even if it’s common — it’s your body’s way of saying something’s out of balance. Learning how to decode that message is the first step toward relief.

✨ Period problems series – part 1 ✨

Your period is your monthly report card. It helps you see if you’re fuelling your body adequately, if environmental toxins are influencing your hormones, or if stress is showing up internally.

Here’s what your period symptoms might be trying to tell you…

🌸 Absent Period Ally 🌸

Missing periods (when you’re not pregnant) can be stressful and confusing. There are many causes, which is why proper investigation is important.

A common reason is under-nutrition. When your body doesn’t feel safe or nourished enough to prepare for pregnancy, it down-regulates ovulation and menstruation to conserve energy.

I see this often in postpartum women or those in their 20s juggling stress, busy lives, and inconsistent eating patterns.

Supporting recovery means increasing energy and nutrient intake, balancing blood sugar, and rebuilding your body’s sense of safety.

✨ Every symptom tells a story — the key is learning how to read it. ✨

Proper testing, nutrient analysis, and hormonal assessment can uncover what’s really driving your symptoms so you can finally feel balanced across your entire cycle.

✨ Running a naturopathy business looks a little like… writing wellness plans one minute and fixing tech automations the next 😅

I love the variety, the creative chaos, and the constant learning that comes with being a naturopath, educator, and entrepreneur all in one.

Some days it’s client calls and research papers, other days it’s bookkeeping, SEO, and dance breaks between emails. Every task leads back to one thing: helping people feel better in their bodies 💚

Natural medicine isn’t a quick fix. If you’ve worked with a health practitioner before and felt let down, I want you to know I see you. Your symptoms are real, your diagnosis is real, and what you’re living through absolutely impacts your quality of life. But here’s the truth…

If you’re stuck in the mindset of “this is just me, this is just how I’ll always feel” then no protocol, no supplement, no meal plan is going to shift things. Healing requires you to step into the identity of someone who gets results because then you will behave that way.

Someone who says “I am strong, I am resilient, and I do whatever I can within my power to make positive changes for myself.”

That doesn’t mean ignoring the barriers. Trauma, stress, and mental health can make it hard to hold a “positive mindset.” That’s not a weakness, it’s reality. But the work is about creating a way forward anyway, with the tools and support that help you move through those barriers.

This is also why diagnosis can be dangerous when it becomes an identity. The symptoms are real, but when we only see ourselves as the diagnosis, we keep reinforcing that reality. If you identify as someone who has IBS, anxiety, difficulty losing weight, fatigue… it’s hard to see yourself feeling better. If you want relief, you need to begin identifying with the version of yourself who is healthier, fitter, more energised, and more comfortable in their own body.

I won’t promise you overnight results. What I can promise is that if you’re ready to meet yourself as that version of you who takes small, consistent actions even when it’s hard — then we’ll make changes that last.

⚡ High cholesterol isn’t always what you think it is

We’re taught to see cholesterol as “bad.” Something to be lowered, controlled, medicated. But here’s the truth: cholesterol is simply a message from your body.

And in women, especially through peri/menopause, it’s a fascinating message.

✨ Cholesterol is the raw material for hormones.

✨ As estrogen and progesterone decline, the body pushes out more cholesterol into the blood because it’s trying to keep hormone production going.

✨ This is why many women see their cholesterol rise during peri/menopause.

As hormones shift, cholesterol patterns change dramatically.

So here’s the question…

Should we immediately turn to statins to “fix” what might be a natural biochemical process? Or should we be asking deeper questions about how to support the body through this transition?

💡 Food for thought: what if high cholesterol in peri/menopause is less about “fault” and more about your cells adapting to hormonal change?

This doesn’t mean cholesterol should be ignored — medical management is sometimes essential. But it does mean we need a more nuanced conversation about women’s health, hormones, and risk.

If you’re in peri/menopause and navigating changing hormones, energy or cholesterol levels, there are ways to support your body with a personalised approach. This is what I help women do every day in clinic.

Some of my clients say, “I don’t want to be on supplements. What else can I do for my health?”

And honestly… I get it.

I’m not a huge supplement taker myself. I’ve bought plenty of bottles that sat untouched in the cupboard for months.

The truth is, we don’t have a supplement deficiency. Our bodies are designed to thrive when they’re given the right fuel and environment — kind of like plants 🌿

What do we actually need to feel well?
☀️ sunshine
🥗 nourishing food
🚶movement
💧 clean water
😴 good sleep
🧘stress regulation
💬 meaningful connection

If we all had these consistently, most of us would feel incredible.

But life gets in the way sometimes. Maybe you’re skipping meals, living off coffee, or running on five hours of sleep. Maybe your gut isn’t absorbing nutrients properly, or stress has your nervous system stuck in overdrive. Maybe your “healthy” diet just isn’t cutting it anymore or you’re reacting to the foods that once made you feel great.

That’s where supplements come in.

They’re not a crutch, they’re a bridge — a way to restore balance while we repair the foundation underneath.

Here are a few of my most commonly prescribed supports:

✨ Magnesium – because we’re all stress heads who need a little calming down

✨ Zinc, B12, Iron, Iodine, B vitamins – to correct common deficiencies and support energy

✨ Sulforaphane (broccoli sprout extract) – to mimic nature’s detox pathways and switch your body’s balance systems (aka nrf2 pathway) back on

When prescribed thoughtfully, safely and temporarily, supplements can make the body more resilient — so you can eventually thrive with less.

You don’t need to live on supplements…but sometimes, they help you get your spark back ✨

Most women will experience digestive issues at some stage in their life.

Constipation, loose stools, bloating, urgency, reflux, gas… these are some of the most common symptoms my clients bring to me in clinic.

Here’s the truth: these aren’t “just normal” parts of being a woman. They’re signals from your body, pointing to an imbalance in your gut microbiome and digestive health.

As a degree-qualified naturopath, I want you to know there are answers. You don’t need to keep putting up with daily discomfort or dismiss your symptoms. The gut microbiome holds powerful insights into your health, and when you understand it, you can finally address the root cause of your digestion struggles.

Don’t be afraid to reach out for support. You deserve to feel good in your body, to eat without fear of symptoms, and to get clarity on what’s really going on.

If you want to get started on your journey to better digestion, DM me RESTORE for my free 3 step guide to better digestion.

✨ Here are some fun facts about your local naturopath

🌿 I’m a Bachelor-qualified naturopath and self-confessed health nerd. I love decoding symptoms, diving into research papers, and connecting the dots between gut health, metabolism, hormones, mood and more!

💃 When I’m not in consults, I’m probably dancing – anything from ballroom to salsa to pole to twerk. I teach twerk classes for fun and spend most evenings rushing to Pilates and dance classes. I’m also a huge music lover, so if I’m not consulting, there’s probably a playlist on in the background.

📱 Since starting my business, I’ve developed a real passion for social media and digital marketing. Outside naturopathy, I help other businesses grow their digital presence.

🌙 I’m deeply spiritual and this flows into everything I do – constantly learning, refining my mindset, exploring identity and self-concept, and reconnecting with spirit.

✨ And yes, I’m that person whose life runs on Notion boards, productivity apps, colour-coded calendars, and endless lists. Organisation genuinely calms my nervous system.

If we haven’t met yet, I’m Olivia 👋 I’m here to help you decode your body, but also remind you that you’re so much more than your symptoms.
